Venture 222 Trailer

Post by gwjay »

Hey everyone I am looking for a trailer for my '71 venture 222. Hoping to find one on the very inexpensive side. So if anyone has one or something that will work that they need a new home for, let me know.

Thanks

Ahh, finding the right trailer
without a boat on it for low cost is
like looking for a needle in a haystack,
unless luck finds you.
I would talk to the nearest boat
trailer maker and they can make
a trailor to fit the V-222 perfectly.
going with steel over galvanized
can save a lot of the cost.
plus most people sell the trailers
with there boats, unless the boat
got chopped up.
I have a marine cradle shop trailer
from Markham ontario and it fits my
Mac 21 perfectly.
the previous owner paid about 1250.00
for it in 2002 and its not galvanized,
works fine

Boat trailers do show up for sale without a boat, but mostly for power boats. I have a Venture 25 and found a tandem axle power boat trailer for a 19-ft boat that fit it perfectly, including a place for the keel to rest when being trailered. Also, it has full side rails that keep it aligned when a side wind tries to blow the boat away during launch or retrieve. It might be worth starting there and modifying the trailer, if necessary. I have seen them for $350 in pretty good shape. There was a boat repair shop where I live that was scrapping power boat trailers because when the boat's owner found out how much it would cost to repair their motor, they would just abandon the whole thing - cheaper to buy an whole used unit than to fix theirs.

I was trolling the sailingtexas website forums last night, as there are a number of trailers for sailboats passing through there, including a guy who modifies "salvaged" trailers. Might be worth a look as well.

My father in law was just given a trailer we are thinking we might modify to fit my 222. The "original" (it's the trailer that came with the boat when I bought it but no idea if it's OEM) is on it's last legs.
