Well now that I'm in they really got something to be peeved at as the only mac cutter rigged with three furlers & with four headsails happens to be a Wee Mighty

I just hate to stick that 4ft bowsprit at Ya's

And with the capability to fly over 700 sq ft of sail at the same time on a 28ft mast with half the weight ratio show me a 26mac with that kinda power

Alex, Will that 30hp Honda empty your ballast tank? I am thinking of replacing my 40hp Nissan 2 stroke with a quieter, smoother and more economical 4 stroke and the Honda 20 and 30 have been suggested.

I have no desire to hot rod - just to be able to cruise around 10kts under power when I can't sail.

Ok, what I have with Honda 30 hp, no power trim, prop 10 ½ x 10 ( replaced from original 10 ½ x 12 for better performance )
1. 2 person onboard , empty water ballast. 3000rpm Speed 10km/h Fuel consumption 3,5 L/hour
With full water ballast 4 person on board all parameters is same..
2. 2 person onboard , empty water ballast WOT 4800rpm Speed 22km/h Fuel consumption 40litres for 100km
With full water ballast 2 or 4 person on board WOT 3600rpm Speed 16 km/h ( motor overloaded ) Better keep 3000rpm.

So, 30 hp one of the worst selection of motor for MAC 19

For speed better 40 or 50 hp , speed will be 35-40km/h with extra weight on transom 20-25 kg, and better Fuel consumption
If you need motor as for backup , in out dock, back to home in calm weather, or so better 9,9 or 15 hp 4 stroke. Long shaft, electro starter, alternator

Positives: Less total weight of sailboat , best fuel consumption, much quieter ,easy tilt up -down Price new motor very low. ( Best buy used www.iboats.com )

Negatives: Max speed with 15 hp will be 9-10km/h Cruise speed 6-8 km/h

For my opinion 20 or 30 hp no best choice for Mac 19

I don't know - I bought the boat in October and have been redoing the interior and updating fittings. My current lake is too small to open up to 40 for more than a couple of minutes so I haven't done any significant testing.

I will be sailing the Tennessee River system starting in the Fall of 2009 and that is my reason for the 19. Enough power performance to make for easy operation below the dams. In most cases, I'll rarely be more than 1/2 mile from shore so I will not need to make an extended run to get to shelter.

We'll sail when we can and motor slowly when we cannot sail. Your suffestion of a 15 might be just the thing - economy, battery charging, electric start for the admiral. Those are what I need.
