Boston;

Mike MAY not be able to answer the cost question until he starts advertising on this site - - - which he is TRYING to arrange but NO ONE is calling him back with a how to????

Anyway, I had my first experience with Inmon's main furler a few weeks ago on Dennis Neal's M, and I will testify that it works perfectly. I was impressed.

I have lazy jacks on my M so I don't need the furler as much as others who have nothing to keep the main from flopping , etc. when lowered, but I would definately recommend Inmon's main furler.

Roller furler on a Mac X or M in my view would be to much windage aloft in a blow more than 30 Knots and thats furled all the way.
Same reason I say no sunbrella on luff and pockets on roller furlers.
Less you have up top less windage you have to deal with, that includes any shhet lines and topping lift.
Keep the center of gravity as close to the bottom in these boats.

Now I'm all for convenience and keeping myself off the deck in rough chop. The Mac seems to have a tricky deck to stand on.

Is this thing worth it or just a novelty.

Roller head sail is a must IMO.

Rick,

Thanks for your mention. I'm VERY, VERY PLEASED with my roller reefing mainsail that was designed by Mike Inmon. I also have a rolling furling Genoa sail, which is useful in light weather.

I can easily control both the Genoa and mainsail from the cockpit. I'll be able to solo sail very shortly.

But, since I'm a beginner sailor, I cannot fully explain all of the advantanges.

I suggest that anyone who's interested contact Captain Mike at:

Incidently, a MacGregor 26M with a BLACK HULL and a competent Captain could sail the telltails off any of you other guys!!!

Regards,

Dennis

BTW - - you MDR guys have not seen me around because I have been in Las Vegas since 1/14 and will remain there until 2/29. I'll be back sailing at MDR on 3/3.
