M versus X production rate

Post by Dimitri-2000X-Tampa »

What's the hull number on 26M's these days? I was remembering an almost 4 year old post about the fact that the Mac factory was rolling out 7-800 26X's out per year in its day:

So now that it is a few years later and the M is a mature design, how many are being built per year?

Dimitri.

We generally get four boats per month from the factory. Although not at the office right now, I think 2,200 would be pretty close for hand grenades.

I thought they were capped at about 600 boats per year due to local VOC (environmental) regs, but that is the from the usual internet rumour mill.

Their supply chain link (on the factory website) indicates this run rate roughly, but I dont think it has been updated for a few years.

God Bless him if he is churning out 2000 boats per year - hope you get there too someday Art!!!

Is that 2200 per year or 2200 total produced? If the latter is true, then that would only be 4-500 per year on average.

As I recall, the first year and a half (mid-model-year 2003 start), sales were down around 350 per year, until the 2005 model came out.

2,200 should be in the ballpark for total produced to date. Our 2005 :macm:, purchased in the spring of that year, is #810. If you go to the "suppliers' corner" on the factory web site and look for one-per-boat items [like main sails or steering units], their estimate of annual purchases is 600/year.

Shame on you Steve

Cumulative production since introduction is around 2,200.

I think Bill told me a couple months ago they were in the 500 range for 2007.

The 600 per year cap due to the California Clean Air Act is a true story and not an urban legend.

Will be interesting to see how this year goes. Although we are still ahead of last years sales, there are some signs of things slowing a little.

We just announced a new discounted shipping and financing program on our site along with pricing on the new factory Evinrude program.

Hopefully they will shake things up a little.

i cant give any numbers on boat sales, but things are slowing down a little here to,not a huge amount it just seems a little harder to turn a coin.

I have my own one man band body shop,im seeing customers taking a little longer to pay and the competition is cutting its prices.

It does not feel like its going to be a "R",feels more like its cooling a little.

Things are still buzzing up here. When I talked with Cheryl of BWY on the last day of the boat show she said they were sold out through June. They try not to commit to delivering more than two boats a week as their detailing, prep, and new customer delivery process is very hands on.

She thought they might still slip a few more in before summer, but Mac's are moving fast up here in the Pacific Northwest. If you are thinking of buying get your deposit in fast so you can still get out on the water this year.

By the way, if you haven't seen it yet, the 08 interior looks much cleaner now that the wood window frames are gone. The new deck liner mold now curves in to meet each window. Gone are the problematic wood frames and their tee mouldings.

Duane must have caught them late in the show. The show boats were pre-sold this year, which bothers me somewhat but I don't know if that had been the case the year earlier as well. I tried to get Tod interested in doing the warrantee work on my 2 year old Sisuki four stroke and he referred me to Puget Marina.

Puget Marina is a place in South Puget Sound that even the locals know little about and when we pulled in, my wife complained that "I like to have water under the dock, there is none" In fact we beached the boat at what must have been a marina about 20 years ago. Fortunately, Tod was correct in that there is a thriving motor repair shop there. They hauled the boat for us and prominently displayed her for the 75 boats doing the Toliva Shoal race. We were on committee and chase boats for the fleet, so that was kind of fun. The 27 foot Giant Slayer (San Juan 27) used our slip back in Olympia. All and all a great week end.
