2k digital generator
Just saw an ad at PEPBOYS for 2k digital generator that I bought last year for $500 on sale for $249. Dang, I love this recession! Anyhow this works perfect powering my 5000 btu A/c unit in the boat.

Yeah, here's the link to the special (good thru January 19).
I wonder, though, what's the sound level for this unit? Is it comparable with the *very* quiet Honda's and Yamaha's?With 120V AC output, 2000W max., 1600W rated.
$299.00 special price - $50.00 mail-in rebate = $249 each after mail-in rebate

Not to drag this thing into politics (please don't), but recessions have their drawbacks. I work for one of the largest Pharma's in the world, and half my department just lost their jobs over Christmas... fortunately yours-truly has survived (by the grace of God and reputation), but let's not forget that there's a cost to lower prices, folks... and remember those that are being crushed by it.Nickyd wrote:Dang, I love this recession!

Looks like an in store deal only. Also, it's the cheapest Kipor made model. Louder and sans smart throttle control. Strange, when I google it KGE2000Tc I get lots of Russian web sites. Probably some weird Russian import or something.kmclemore wrote:Yeah, here's the link to the special (good thru January 19).

Found it here as well

For $250 bucks, I guess you can't go wrong. Worst case scenario, you got a backup gen for the house. I'm not sure I'd put that on my boat.

Re: 2k digital generator
I bought a little TG1200 2 cycle and it powers my 5000 btu easy for $125 at Northern tools. Its not as quiet as the Honda but close.
Will fit nicely under the Mac x seat.

generator
I checked the Northeren site, and the TG 1200 is a 2 stroke running at 69 db. Their own Northen brand unit of the same size costs over $400 but has a 4 cyle engine running at 63 db. If you don't mind the extra noise and mixing oil with the gas, the TG 1200 is a great deal.

Mount
My favorite mounting that I saw somewhere in here but of course can't find when I need it entails gluing 4 chair leg floor protecters to the top of the motor case for the gen feet to fit into and tieing it to stern mast holder.

no mounting
The generator has Rubber feet and very little vibration, my Mac. X is new to me and haven't used it yet but I did on my Potter 19 on the stern deck.
Noise below was not a problem and could hardly hear it over the AC.
I am going to just put it under the cockpit seat and tie two lines to it, I probably want to sleep in the Vberths as under the cockpit might be to noisey.
a Carbon Monoxide detector would be a good idea, I would only use it on the hook so wind will be on the nose and fumes go aft.

The one on the original post. It was a special at Pep Boys.Night Sailor wrote:RussMT you didn't say which unit you picked up and like......
It's not a Honda and I'm sure the Honda is MUCH nicer. This has a cheap quality feel to it. But as often as I expect to use it, it will work fine.
