Standard cabin light housing
I was wondering if the cabin light housing that comes with the 26M is something that you can get from WestMarine, Boaters World, etc.. or do I have to get it from MacGregor? I seems anything you get from Macgregor you have to do by money order which is a pain... does anyone know of an internet source for these housings?

I know what you mean about "cheap" .. these fixtures are not "high quality".. I just converted all of the light fixtures to LED's and wanted to add one more .. just wanted all of them to be the same... Most of the fixtures I've seen on the internet look much better..much higher quality .. I'm probably looking in the wrong place .. I guess I should be trying places like JC Whitney.

I think I found them ... they are made by Bargman.. here is the link in case anyone is interested in getting more of the same fixtures:

What location in cabin for your proposed new light fixture? Consider whether that location might be better served by a swivel spotlight. On my X, I replaced the 2 stock Mac 1500 mA cabin light fixtures with 4 tiny DIY LED 50 mA swivel spots on the overhead....2 just fwd of the compression post, for reading in the v-berth or illuminating the dinette table, and 2 more over the galley, for illuminating the galley or the fwd portside area under the cockpit.
The LEDs are of relatively narrow half angle (20-30 degrees) and so focus their modest lumens on the task areas targeted. So you trade very low current draw for dimmer lighting in parts of the cabin outside those targeted areas...works for us but probably not for everybody.

I've replaced all of the bulbs in the light fixtures with LEDs.. the configuration is about 30 LEDs mounted to a square circuit board with a bayonet connector on the end so it will plug into the standard housing.. These are very bright.. actually too bright .. so I also ran a separate feed to each light housing and put a strip of amber LEDs across the back of the housing near the switch.. now I have one light switch for the bright white LEDs and a separate switch for the amber LEDs.. I may put a swivel spotlight in the V berth for reading though..

I replaced the lamps in both fixtures on our X with the Sensibulb LED with dimmers. A simple splice in the line between the switch and the bulb and you have full range dimming. At full intensity, it's brighter than with the bulbs too.

I Have found can get "just about" anywhere on my M
Using a combination of a Slinky Tape , Green-lee Flex rods and a standard blue steel fish tape.
Helps too that I was an Electrician for about 38 years.
Pull a good quality string BTW with every wire / run you pull, everywhere, for later / next time.
