Another Question for wood workers
My favorite wood glue, indoors or out, is Titebond lll. It advertizes itself on the lable as being "waterproof". However, it is not intended for pieces that are continuously under water. Its very similar in consistancy to Elmer's carpenter's glue, but is much stronger, according to their tests. It also has a rather long shelf life.

1/4" plywood
If Lowes serves your area, they carry a hardwood plywood that is just under 1/4" and has exterior glue. I have used it for a lot of drawer bottoms and some other uses. A couple of years ago, I put some scraps in a jar of water and sat it in the sun for a few days, then tried to bend it to see if it would delaminate (it didn't); rpeated the process several times with the same wood over a couple of weeks, and it did not delaminate. Bought 3 sheets and built a 12' sailboat. It has held up just fine. This stuff only costs $11 for a 4' x 8' sheet. If available to you, could save some money, even if it isn't "marine" grade.

Thanks Paul That is a huge savings in $$ and Time.
I am leaving Thursday for 2 weeks to visit family in Florida and when I get back this whole things starts to happen. I will finally open a photo bucket or something so I can post pictures as it comes together....
Hey if you can and get the time post a picture of that sailboat!!!
Where did you buy the plans? How long did it take you? Was it a pain getting the rigging?

I find the building of wooden boats fascinating and would like to think that someday I will make the attempt to build one but low a behold so many other projects lay ahead of me I doubt this will come to pass.James V wrote:A different question. Here in Man of War they build wooden sail boats, all sizes. Would anybody like a group of pics of these and/or there interiors?
Anything special?
