BTW, yes Wild Hair (Flotilla Commodore Chip Giles and First Mate Kelly), lost his mast in open water on the last day, motoring from Marquesas Key back to Key West in about 10 knots headwind, 3-4' chop and swells. The forestay separated at the turnbuckle; whether it actually failed or unscrewed is not known because the turnbuckle itself got lost in the shuffle of trying to get the mast back up.
Other than the forestay, there was no other damage, and with some help from other cruisers who swam over, he was able to get it back up while underway and secure it temporarily with a halyard to finish the trip.

Chip,
In some ways it was better that it happened on Starboard side.
At least it looks like where you took the hit if it had been on the Port side it may have cut thru some of your 12 vdc OEM wires as well as your Shore Power.
But than you may have also gained a Stove pipe hole for the Galley !!!
