Will a 26M fit in a 10x30 storage unit?????
Will a 26M fit in a 10x30 storage unit?????
I'am pretty sure that the 26M will be our next boat, to replace our Bayliner 2450 Cruiser. I currently have a 10x30 storage unit 5 minutes from the lake we use and it's cheap at $40.00 per month.
Will the 26M fit in this space. The unit has a very high cieling so I'am thinking the mast would fit if placed in a propped up diagonal manner.
Thoughts on that?????
Can I squeeze the 26M into this space?????
Storage at the lake is hard to find and I like the idea of keeping the boat indoors especially for the off season.
Thanks for any replies

As divecoz says, you can pick up a little length by parking diagonally (and lowering the outboard and turning it all the way to one side).
As far as the mast goes, you can probably put some hangers on the back side of your house, way up under the eaves, and it might not be noticable.
The challenging part will be getting the lifeline stanchions on the cabin top under the door. IIRC, they were almost ten feet off the ground... but I could be wrong about that.

The door on my storage unit is 12ft tall so I don't think that height will be an issue. It appears that my bay sits taller on the trailer than a Mac does. The top of my windsheild comes close, but it fits. There is one 26M up there and by looking at it I'am almost sure it sits a tad lower than what I have.
The length is what worries me. On my 2450 I have to power the outdrive all the way down, turn it to one side and make sure it's touching the back wall. The door still scrapes the tongue of the trailer when I close it. Of course in 1985 Bayliner didn't include the length of the swim platform.
It is possible to hinge the tongue of the trailer if it doesn't fit?
Is the front end of the Mac light enough that one person can move the front back and forth to attain a diagonal fit?
Thanks

The normal tongue weight is/should be 250-350 lbs, that is a lot to push on a single wheel but perhaps you can if you load down the backend with people and stuff to lighten it, but hinging the tongue ?? Get an A frame, pull the motor and remove the rudders, hang the mast with multiple lifting points and it might go, I don't know that you would gain anything angling but you could take a piece of graph paper and layout the storage and overlay the boat/trailer to see. I may do that tonight just to see what it shows.

I roll mine around easy enough on asphalt but I am seriously thinking about buying a set of those Larger Wider Twin Wheels for the jack.
Yes the tongue weight is every bit of 300 lbs.
The hinge idea was stupid! My Bad, after going out and looking at mine
.
Yes you MIGHT gain 18" but for the work involved, what was I thinking?
These trailers have surge brakes and you really need them and they work GREAT. But just making a flexable hose to allow the tongue to hinge would be a nightmare! Saftey what if the hose broke cracked leaked?
You would have anywhere form 3500 to 5000 lbs sudden Pushing you when you wanted to stop. NO Good Not Good at all, Dumb idea!

length
I measured my 26M in my driveway with the rudders installed and pulled up, I got 32' overall from the tip of the tongue to the tip of the rudders. This does include the mast sticking out the back.

Re: length
Rudders removed and put the motor down? think that would get under 30'?Andy26M wrote:I measured my 26M in my driveway with the rudders installed and pulled up, I got 32' overall from the tip of the tongue to the tip of the rudders. This does include the mast sticking out the back.

I just went out and measured again and again and moving the mast forward... the best I can do is 31'1"
Buy a boat sans trailer and find a trailer that allows the boat to be closer to the tongue? How about an X how do they sit on the trailer ? Is there a difference in trailers? Is the new Aluminum trailer different. Would it be possible to unbolt the metal tongue on a new trailer and cut off 14" of the metal tongue and some of the aluminum trailer? I am looking out the window right now at my boat. How about cutting the ladder and the winch loose and re welding that more forward and turning the winch around ... That would gain no less than the 14" needed.

I'am 29 years of age and 215lbs so hopefully I have enough strength and youth left in me to push the tongue back and forth. Of course when the Admiral is younger than you(Mine's 24) you are always referred to as an OLD man. LOL
Thanks to all for the great responces so far. Keep-em coming. I may being overly opptomistic that a Mac will fit. It would be sooo nice if it would though. Indoor storage is so hard to find up at the lake and it's so darn handy at 5minutes from the lake. Gives me a place to tinker on the boat during the off season. Half the fun I've had with my existing boat is when it's been on the trailer tinkering and anticiapating the upcoming season.
I've been looking at geting a bigger boat, but it won't fit in space and all the larger spaces up there are full. Heck my 24 already costs $180.00 dollars to fill.
My new Admiral of 6 weeks and I currently love to move along at 1500rpm and CRUISE all day long so I think a Mac would be perfect for us. We could still go the same speed and not have to listen to 8cylinders burning money all day long.
We boat on Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota. This resovoir is only 5miles wide but 180miles long with depths of over 100ft and litterally hundred of bays to explore and beach in. The beaching capabilities of the Mac really appeal to us.
Again I hope this works out of me. I just don't think I could buy a brand new boat and then let it sit outside.
I've never owned a sailboat before and all those lines, clamps, and cables etc look intimidating, but I'am sure I'll get the hang of it.
Thanks Again Guys
Joe

My friend I and 99% of us here let them sit outside all year long. Winter isn't hard on them at all, not as I have seen here in Northern ILL. An hour with the power washer and she looks like new. Wish I did
On a hard surface you'll be able to move her all you want . I do and am 56 y.o. and only 198 lbs. I have gone out and looked at my boat and trailer numerous times today for this project ( I'm retired
) and I really think the idea of cutting off the ladder and turning the winch will do it. A little mod here and there and she will be good to go.
