broken mast

Post by mickie »

I have a 1998 Macgregor 26X with a broken mast. Calls and request of dealers haven't turn up a new mast. Any ideas? It is broke in two and twisted.

You need to hook up with a dealer and get a new mast shipped to you with the dealers next boat shipment to defer shipping costs. Use the dealer button on left to find one close by.

Does AL stand for Alabama??
From all the jokes I've been recieving lately, I would guess it is a Red-Neck accident.

Mac problem

Post by EmilyRoy »

I'm curious as to how it broke, too. We are searching for a boat to buy and I'm concerned about mast damage when I inquire about a boat. It seems everyone I know who has bought a sailboat has discovered mast problems after the purchase. Is this an issue with Macs?

masts beaking on a mac is not a problem generally associated with product failure, mostly they are caused by human error

Emily - a trailerable boat always has more issues since you are taking down rigging and mast so the chance to damage something is higher of course. Good news is repairing stuff on Macs is so much cheaper than other boats due to the volume of boats sold.

I just replaced my X mast with a M mast--sold the X mast to a guy that drove his mast-up boat into a low tree branch.

I was told the factory only has M masts in stock. The dealer has to cut 2' off the top and drill the holes for the spreaders, cleats, etc.

I received a 26X mast from the factory last December (I had to wait a couple months for it to get piggybacked to a boat shipment near my area).

26X mast

I have a "new" undrilled mast in Stuart, Florida that is for sale.

Ordered a new one but found a replacement while waiting.

Unfortunately it is a long haul from Alabama.

Gee,

I wonder what the logistics would be to flying over and getting a one way UHaul roughly 30 ft long :?

I transported one across Florida using the Mac trailer with a vertical 2X4 support strapped to the ladder. The support was used to elevate the forward portion of the mast so it was above the vehicle. The aft portion of the mast only extended past the rear of the trailer a foot or two.

Good evening,

I broke my Mac 26 X mast in an accident and I am looking for replacement. Any suggestions as to where I can buy one as close as possible to Miami Florida?

Thanks,

Ernesto

Dyer or BWY has replacements, $680 plus $100 packing and shipping extra. BWY has all holes predrilled and easy replacement.
