Let her take the helm
I absolutely can relate to ayas post. I am in somewhat of a similar situation. My wife no boating experience in all her life (before she met me). Then, with the Mac our first boat, I approached it a little differently. I did not feel confident to teach her how to handle the boat (I do o.k. on my own...

I'd like to provide another reason, why genebesch might be better off with a smaller engine. First of all, I believe most owners buy a 50hp or even more because of resale value, and because gas is cheap (relatively speaking). I also know that the difference in gas mileage between a 40hp, 50hp or 60h...

Dowsar was my choice
Hello! I chose the Dowsar Bimini for my M, bought it last year. Yes, price is high, but (also true) quality is high. It is height adjustable, you could sail with it (in lower position), it's all stainless steel, they made it in a custom color (Heather Beige sunbrella, matches the rest of my canvas a...

Seacock for Galley sink?
The other day I was talking to a Mac-Owner (in Germany) He told me that per local regulations, a seacock was required for the galley-drain hole at the transom. It did make somewhat sense, because if the hose would come off, water could potentially leak into the hull (bilge), and could theoretically ...

Bottom Paint for Fresh Water Lake
Hello from Chicago! We have decided to put the M on a slip on Lake Michigan for the upcoming season (Reefpoint Marina, Racine, WI). I did a lot of research regarding different types and techniques of bottom paint and its application. I decided for the following: 3 to 4 coats of INTERLUX Interprotect...

Barriercoat and Antifouling
I voted both because I intend to apply both Interprotect 2000 and Micron CSC for the coming season. My boat will be docked in the Reefpoint Marina in Racine, Wisconsin, and seems to be reasonable insurance against potential severe hull damage. Will let you guys know at the end of the season how it w...

Rhodes 22 and other "alternatives" to Mac
When we bought our 26M, we did also take a close look at the Rhodes, and it is not a bad boat. It has it's nice features, like the in-boom furling, the raising cabin roof, the good cockpit, and overall build-quality. But the price sticker was way too high in mind. The boats that I would probably con...

Cover or not cover?
I'd like to post this to get some feedback regarding covering the boat for outside storage. Dowsar sells nice covers, but they are more like a tent. Shrink-wrap is another way to go, but expensive. And when I look around the boat yard, many boats don't have any kind of cover. Whats your take? Maybe ...

Bunk cushions: washable?
Those of us outside of California are probably all winterizing our Macs these days. I noticed that my bunk cushions have still a pretty nasty factory stink, and I wonder if they are washable? Anyone got experience with this subject? I am somewhat concerned with the plastic backside of these cushions...

Experience with Harbors in Michigan requested
Hello all (that have been to Michigan): I am planning to do a mini-cruise sometime in late August this year. We want to do some harbor-hopping in our M, and are planning to do maybe 4 harbors in a short week. Drive up to one of the places, launch the boat there and then overnight in different harbor...

Can someone explain how this device works?
If checked out the website of this "Loos Gauge", and am not sure I understand how it works. Apparently, it is attached to the shroud, and measures some kind of deflection. I would assume, that the amount of deflection depends greatly on the overall length of the shroud. Any comments from p...

How do you install the Keel Guard
How do you install the Keel Guard? Is it necessary to lift the boat on the trailer in order to put it on? I have a 26M, so I wonder if the required length would be any different from the centerboard X. I assume the Keel Guard start at about waterline-level on bow, and extends to the daggerboard trun...
