First time reefing :)

Last saturday me,my wife and 2 kids decided to go out to Mark Twain Lake for a day of sailing. The weather was cloudy and cool about 60 degrees with alittle bit of drizzling rain. The winds were 15 to 20 knots. We decided to try sailing anyway. I reefed the Main sail for the first time and used only...

With 1.5 days in the water between trips, I wouldnt even treat the blisters, let alone epoxy, let alone epoxy plus bottom paint. My 2002 :macx: gets wax only and has been slipped 6 months of year for two seasons, trailered for 4 years in both salt and fresh - spends about 4 weeks in salt water and ...

I used that black, really hard bottom paint years ago and does it ever look good. It lasts forever and on your boat probably longer. The reason I bring it up is, will after all is said and done will your hull look like it's had the chicken-pox? What did you use? I hope it doesnt look like it had th...

Do I need bottom paint over epoxy?

I am in the middle of openeing up many blisters in my hull mostly at the waterline. I am using a countersink bit to open them up it works perfect it keeps you from drilling to deep and gives plenty of surface area for the epoxy to adhere to.I am planning on using west system epoxy to fill the bliste...

Btw, ive read that fresh water is harder on hulls because the 'osmotic pressure is higher' than salt water. Being a chemist, I think this is a statement coming from basic understanding of osmotic pressure between a salt water and fresh water interface. An interface between a water, gelcoat, and fib...

Anyone here ever buy FX sails?

Anyone here ever buy FX sails? I am trying to decide if I should go with another Doyle Sail, Kelly-Hanson, or FX sail.

The jib from FX is about $720 and the one from KH is about $295 I am not sure how much the sail from doyle is. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thank You
Jim

Anyone here ever use Kelly-Hanson sails?

I am needing to get a new Jib. I have the original Doyle Jib on my boat now. The sun has done alot of damage and I think it is time for a new one. I saw Kelly Hanson has one for $299 and it has a UV protection whenit is furled. I am not sure of the color of the UV protecion. Hopefully black. Anyway ...

Thanks to everyone for your help on the subject. I know some of you are wondering if we I went out on the lake? The answer is no I didnt go out. There was just too much wind gust from 20 to 30 mph. I kind of wish I went but I don't want to put my wife and kids at risk. If it was just me I would go f...

Is 20-30 mph winds too much for the mac 26x?

I am wanting to go sailing tommorow for the last time this year. The weather man is saying we are going to have 20-30 mph winds. The last time I went out in high winds it was exciting but scary at times. We almost capsized a few times. Would reefing be enough to deal with the high winds or should I ...

Can a Mac capsize?

I was sailing on Mark Twain Lake a few weeks ago. We were having a great day sailing. We had 15+ kt winds, it was the fastest wind I ever sailed my mac X in. We were sailing very fast I dont know the speed but we were actually leaving a nice size wake behind us. The winds were gusting pretty fast fr...

I have been thinking of removing all my bottom paint since I trailer my boat. I removed some of it and found my gelcoat in bad shape. It looks like it was sanded for good adhesion for the paint. There is also little blisters in the gel coat. I dont know what to do about it. Should I just paint over ...
