Re: raising the boom
I’m not trying to tip the boat :) , about the comment; “These boats have 1300 lbs. of water ballast and 300 lbs. of permanent ballast” I think that may have been a typo. That would put the total ballast at 1600#. If in fact that was used in the calculations then the righting force is wrong. The “M” ...

Re: Major triple bypass Macsurgery
Have you sailed with your hydraulic steering yet? If so how do you like it? I like the idea of placing the ram below and connecting with a cable. What type (brand) of cable did you use and what brand is the hydraulic system?

Re: Lake of the Woods, Minnesota
This sounds like a great lake to explore! They say it has 65,000 miles of shore line, 55 miles wide and 90 miles long plus 14,582 islands. I will have to put this on my places to visit. Here is a link I found for charts of the lake http://www.maptown.com/canadiannautical/lakeofthewoods.html Here is ...

Re: To Heat or Not to Heat?
I have had my 26X since 2002 and park her in my side yard. I live in Colorado, USA. At times our winter temps drop down to -20 F degrees. I have never used any type of heat and never had a problem, but it is dryer here then some states.

Only 8 states allow you to tow at 75 MPH. The rest are: 10 states at 70 MPH, 16 states at 65 MPH and 17 hold you at 55 MPH. The District of Columbia is included in the 55 MPH. Click on the link to check on your route. Towing Laws Listed by State . You can also go to BoatUS

Re: Project M - Doubling the Size of the Cockpit
Bob I do not really know anything about this steering system, I just noticed the statement on page one from the link you posted. That was for the “Baystar” system. I did check out their other product, Seastar http://ww2.seastarsteering.com/OUTBOARD/oboard.htm . This system comes with a front mount r...

Re: Project M - Doubling the Size of the Cockpit
I like your idea, it’s very interesting! Looks like you have given this some serious thought. Have you considered building a full scale mockup out of cheaper materials to see how it would function (pivot only) before committing to the machine shop? I see that the steering system you have chosen is d...

Re: High Altitude props, E-tek 60?
My 26X is a 2002, the engine is a 2003 Big Foot 50HP EFI 4-stroke. I have two props, one for high altitude and the other for sea level. I have sailed at three different elevations. When I am running at sea leave, I use a 13P and when I am running at home ≈ 5000 feet, I use a 10P. This change brings ...

Re: Roll Call!
My profile info is to the right, I live in Colorado but love sailing in the San Juan’s. To date I have made 5 trips around the islands totalling over 1500 miles. I should point out I spend a few months (working holiday) at a time when I am there. So we have reached 5057 in members (very impressive t...

Re: Fixed Mount VHF antenna recomendations
I agree with Paul, which is the reason I mounted my antenna on top of the mast. The VHR radio is a critical key to our safety. The best way to reach out and touch someone is with power and antenna height. According to the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary; the range you could broadcast is up to 20...

Re: Dropped trailer off end of ramp
Power loading a boat is one of the main reasons for ramp damage. Propeller wash can erode the sediment just beyond the ramp surface, creating a large hole. The eroded Sediment is deposited behind the propeller, creating a mound. Trailer tires can get stuck in these holes, and boats can run aground o...

Re: Automatic 12vdc with shore power
I have an on board 12 amp smart -charger which is hard wired to the batteries. For power I installed a “MARINCO” Battery Charger Inlet - 15A. I mounted the inlet at the stern (engine well) on the starboard side. This allows for quick extension cord connection without opening covers or hatches. I mou...
