Re: 2004 26M repower from Johnson (Bombardier) 50hp to modern Suzuki 30hp
So final update on repower and 20 hour break-in service: 1. After trying 3 props, incl. 4-blade, I settled on Suzuki OEM 3x10.25x9, which spins 2,600rpm at 5.5kts which is our most usual cruising speed and at WOT spins up to 5,000rpm at 9kts, that's with ballast in and full gear and provisions. 2. I...

Re: 2004 26M repower from Johnson (Bombardier) 50hp to modern Suzuki 30hp
After getting repower quotes from all Suzuki dealers in the area I ended up buying the motor online from Camping World (who had the best price at the time) and got a non-affiliated local boat yard to install the motor and controls as a package deal with bottom paint. Worked out to be quite a bit che...

Re: 2004 26M repower from Johnson (Bombardier) 50hp to modern Suzuki 30hp
I am now past the first 20 hours on the new motor, and so getting ready to do the first break-in service.. Which is engine oil & filter and gear oil. As we are quite overspent after all the new motor expenses, I am going to have to do the service myself - in the slip.. Engine oil & filter is...

Re: 2004 26M repower from Johnson (Bombardier) 50hp to modern Suzuki 30hp
First off - thanks everyone for the comments! Second - the new snow white 30hp Suzuki is mounted with all new controls and tach and is super sweet :-) Here're a few first takeaways: - I tried it with the stock 3x10.25x11 prop and while the motor seems to pull just fine below 3,000 RPM, it tops out a...

Re: 2004 26M repower from Johnson (Bombardier) 50hp to modern Suzuki 30hp
Thanks a lot for sharing - this is very useful and interesting!! I am with you on the redundancy 100%. In fact I considered keeping the old 50hp until it fails and adding a small aux outboard for safety backup - something like 4-6hp gas or Torqeedo Travel.. Unfortunately, 26M transom is too narrow f...

Thanks for the comments!
I too wish we could go for 90hp but Santa didn't come thru for us either
In fact I priced one size up motor - 40hp Suzuki and Tohatsu, both were $5k more, factoring in separate shift & throttle controls and dealer install.. So we gonna have to manage with 30hp

Re: 2004 26M repower from Johnson (Bombardier) 50hp to modern Suzuki 30hp
Hello all, Looking at my original post date :-) - after exactly two years of soul searching we finally pulled the plug and ordered the new Suzuki 30hp motor to replace our ageing 50hp Johnson. While waiting for delivery I have been doing research on what prop I should use with the new motor.. The mo...

Re: MacGregor 26M trailer specs question
Thanks everybody for the inputs!! Meanwhile we finally got the insurance money (only $1,500..) and are looking for a used trailer.. I posted a trailer-wanted ad on a bunch of Mac related forums, nothing so far. If anyone is selling their old trailer, regardless of condition or knows of one for sale,...

Re: MacGregor 26M trailer specs question
Yes, opened a claim, currently holding my breath.
The trailer policy will at at most pay $1,900 unfortunately, so it will have to be a well used trailer.

Re: MacGregor 26M trailer specs question
Yep, I found Supersail - very nice trailers, but at $6K I'd rather get a new outboard and never haul out the boat
Having looked on local Craigslists, I hope to find something used in $1.5K range.
Thanks!

MacGregor 26M trailer specs question
Hello, Our factory 26M trailer was stolen from a fenced parking lot (who would do such a thing, right?!) and so we are now looking for a suitable used trailer.. As the boat is in the marina 800 miles from the house, it looks like I will have to find and buy a trailer based on dimensions and weight s...

Yep, sent Todd @ BWY an email, hopefully will hear back..
And boat hook and duct tape has been my fallback plan so far, thankfully I have not had to use it

Ball pin spec - part of BWY steering disconnect kit
Hello all, I am trying to fabricate an emergency tiller for my MacGregor 26M that attaches directly to the outboard motor. As part of the tiller setup I would like to use the same ball pin that comes with the BWY steering disconnect kit (please see the image below). I could not find just the pin in ...

Re: 2004 26M repower from Johnson (Bombardier) 50hp to modern Suzuki 30hp
Thanks a lot for the comments! Sounds like we would do just fine with 30hp.. I just need to figure out if the bolt pattern will be different, I think this will determine whether when the time comes I'd have a go it it myself or get it done in a yard. I understand my Johnson 50hp likely uses "BI...
