motor on!

Well the logging has been delayed. I think my landlord doesn't want to do it, but I look on the bright side, the view of four peaks, Rainier, Helens, Adams, and Hood, would be worth it. It wil probably happen eventually but happily after May 1. So I have a week reprieve as May 1 was my idea date any...

thanks guys

My knowledge of the current speed came from asking the harbormaster that question, she said "outside the no-wake buoys, three to five". I presume she meant knots. Inside the no wake buoys I'd guess a lot less, the water is shallower and there are several marinas on that side of that channe...

upate

The guy called me back on the honda and is giving me first looks since I responded first. It's down in the water on his boat, even better. This is a 10hp 4-stroke which I think will more than enough to get me around. The 22ft training boats for my ASA class had 5hp motors and we used them right out ...

forced to move boat

Repost... thanks Frank C. I normally wouldn't want to put the boat in without a real motor, and I totally understand everyone cautioning me not to do it. Where the boat is current parked they are going to begin logging some of the very tall trees on the property this week, so I am forced to move it ...

transom trolling motor only?

I've been scrubbing and waxing and getting her ready to put in next Wed at my new slip. They told me I couldn't use their ramp because of the ovehead powerlines and I practically had to draw them a diagram to illustrate that the mast could be lowered and the powerlines were not a problem. So now it ...

sick of tarps

I know a custom cover is more expensive, but I'm getting kind of sick of tarps and constantly working out rain pockets and fighting the wind. Does anyone have a suggestion for a fit boat cover that covers at all, and possibly as a bonus can be used for highway driving? Waiting out the wettest winter...

Hey guys, wow I didn't realize I opened such a can of worms. I think I can do this sealing job myself and learn a necessary skill in maintaining the boat. I also really like the idea of lead shot and epoxy in the keel, good ideas there on putting weight as low as it can go, this boat sailed so well ...

lead shot with epoxy, that sounds like something even I can do! What kind of epoxy are you using? Do you plan to flow it into the existing hole or cut a larger port into the daggerboard?

Can anyone advise on using a non-lead filler in the keel? Cement?

Well I spoke to a friend who has sailed a lot and he said that boat in the water is just life, and that it was certainly one of the deck hardware mounts leaking, and that I should just bite the bullet and go through and hit every fitting on the boat with sealant. I called the dealer and they are sen...

Well my new online friends, this appears to be a much more serious problem then my initial investigation revealed. Today after a lot more hard rain it let up in the afternoon and got colder. I went out to check the boat to see how it look, initially everything looked good, the window wasn't leaking,...

chainplate and other inspections

Well, it hasn't stopped raining yet but it is expected to taper off tonight and hold off tomorrow for a bit. I have a good idea where the current visible drips are but I 'd like to know more about how to inspect the most likely candidates. For the roof window the inspection is obvious, but the pedes...

I just picked mine up from the dealer, the front D ring (the same one the trailer winch is is hooked to) was secured with a generous looping and hitching of dock line. I'm not sure what kind of knoting they used, but it was clean and well done, obviously a good strong backup. I did notice while towi...

Wow! Thanks for all the help guys, I checked the boat this morning and the leaks have mostly dried up, last night was the most intense phase of the rain (I hope! They are still calling for 6-9 more inches today!) and this morning it was raining lightly but the window was not leaking. The pedestal st...

leaky M?

I just got my 26M (barely) in the driveway, it's a really beautiful boat. Towing it for the first time really got my nerves up but we brought it all the way home. We're having quite a rain storm here in Oregon, 24 hours of continuous downpour, even my house is starting to leak. I've been checking th...
