Re: Obligatory seasonal thread about waxing/washing
$600 for a cleaning sounds like a lot to me...but then I'm just old enough to remember when a Hershey bar about the size of a skateboard was 5¢. If you have electric power in the boat lot or a semi-decent 1,500 watt or better generator, I'm a big fan of that little Harbor Freight PORTLAND 1750 PSI 1...

Indeed. We did go a bit "off road" there, bit the OP did mention tow beasts, so a couple of us just ran with it. Just trying to help. Sorry.

Re: Where to buy Mac 26M in Europe or better import from US?
Yes, towing can and would be a problem for many cars and small SUVs (especially AWD units.. Power Transfer Units are built VERY weak.. and most ppl do not change the fluids every 30k miles.. so you will really beat up a AWD vehicle). Even a Mac 26M would max out to the limit a 2wd Dodge Journey. (m...

My :macx: is mercifully water tight while stored on the hard, but along with variously-scented tealite candles from the local Ikea's 'Clearance and As-Is' room, I've found these Dollar Tree "DampRid" knockoffs for just a buck (instead of $5 for the name brand) tucked here and there just th...

Re: Where to buy Mac 26M in Europe or better import from US?
The used car market went from damned near collapse pre-Covid (some economists citing flagging results of larger commercial used fleet car auctions as a foreboding economic indicator of hard times to come) to a current situation where just about any smoke-belching hoopty is now suddenly gold-plated. ...

Re: Restoration of hurricane damaged '99 26x
Looks like you're doing a fine job. In the event you come across aspects of this or that about which you may be a bit foggy (for my light fixer-upper 26X it was its electrics, a rat's nest of half-installed stuff handed off to me by the previous owner--with no documentation or designs, natch), then ...

That was about 3 years ago. Here's a followup: https://www.tampabay.com/pinellas/what-happened-to-the-couple-whose-boat-sank-near-johns-pass-theyre-off-on-another-adventure-20190218/ Executive Summary: They cranked up a Gofundme site, raked in FAR more than the boat cost, was given another bigger bo...

Thanks for the goof-pause. Those little "yachts" are kinda cool and cheery, in a small town parade with little weaving Shriner cars kinda way. It might be fun to bang together something goofy like that in the back yard from plans or a kit. I could also see a solo cruiser type tugging one o...

Re: socket size for bf50 prop nut
Now that I ponder it, 16mm DOES seem a bit teeny. I do hate that fancy footwork they sometimes do with bolt diameter vs. bolt head wrench sizes. There's a Wikipedia article that sort of explains it here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrench_size, and it looks like a 24mm wrench might do a good job...

You're very welcome. Oh, and make sure and bring a little grease for the shaft and once the old one's off check for any wound up fishing or other line. It won't do your seal there any favors.

Hey moderators, any thought to reaching out to some of the MIA regulars? I'm thinking about people like bilgemaster, sumner, Quebec1 (he just posted on the Facebook page), miss ollie and the like. I haven't heard a peep from Sumner in a long time and I hope he's all right. Maybe a poke through emai...

Not that it has any bearing whatsoever on your Mac 25, but my 2001 26X holds an ancient Exide Nautilus Dual Purpose NC-24 in a suitable Wallyworld black plastic Group 24 marine battery box in the compartment under the single seat aft of the galley. The battery measures 10 1/4" long x 6 13/16&qu...

Re: Outboard starts in driveway, not at the lake
Thanks Massey! That seems like a great tip about pulling the fuel line and letting the carbs run dry. That's how I tend to keep my other small gravity-fed carbureted engines (mowers, generators, etc.) crud-free and in good shape after each use...that and using ethanol-free with a dash of StāBil 360 ...

If you're referring to the "castle nut" with the cotter pin, if your "BF50" model matches those described here, it looks like it's a 16mm: https://www.boats.net/product/honda/90301-ZV5-000?gclid=CjwKCAjw_JuGBhBkEiwA1xmbRRSAvZOBe6XDHdfDWqfOCHCqm_VWdDt90gyrE8XiyFsjPMAc0rq5cBoCxNQQA...
