A topping lift holds the boom horizontal when not using the sail. It holds the boom so you can raise the sail completely. Once the sail is completely up, it holds the boom and you slacken the topping. You don't have one, so you aren't raising the sail completely. IIRC less then one foot between the ...

Keep tension on the furling line while deploying the sail so it doesn't wrap and is tightly spooled so it doesn't jam when being pulled.

Do not use those quick pins. They will pull out sideways and you loose the rig.

A mac and trailer is about 3000 lbs, so your tongue weight should be no more than 300 lb.
