I am restoring my grandfather's 17, and the boom has gone missing over the years. I intend to have a new boom produced but have no measurements, etc. Can anyone provide me some length/ diameter measurements for the extrusion and location measurements for any boom hardware?

Even some detailed close up photos would help.

As a start, go to Herm's webpage and check the foot length of the mainsail.
Your boom needs to be ~6 inches longer.

If you don't get an answer on this forum, try the MacGregor/Venture forum at TrailerSailors.com.

You might also try macgregorowners website- they often come up with specs and/or drawings, particularly for the older boats. :)

I have a '69 V17 in storage. I'll post boom measurements from that if it's a help. I'll be out there next weekend. 4/5 4/6 If you're still interested.

Thanks for all your help, everyone. I still haven't found diameter measurements, etc. but am about to make some educated guesses with Dwyer based on the information you guys have helped me find. I appreciate all the help and will let everyone know how it turns out.
