I took this on my trip to England. I,ve never seen this many sailboats before. They stretch for over a mile along the R.Colne.
Sorry I,m not sure how to enlarge picture to post from Photobucket. Help

George.
Put In Bay, South Bass Island on a holiday weekend. There had been times every anchor spot was full and boats tied together at anchor.
Check it out Memorial day 2008 and check in...

Being a slightly smaller island than the USA

but with 60m people, we get rather higher densities of sailboats at popular spots (same applies to most things in fact).
Last year I moved to the Isle of Wight (150 sq. miles, less than 10 miles off central southern England) which is something of a sailing Mecca. The town of Cowes hosts the annual Cowes Week of racing, which is marine mayhem but loads of fun! Almost every river and inlet on the island and the nearby parts of the mainland has a marina or rows of moorings. You give up trying to count boats afer a while.
If any of you guys make a trip to the UK, try to include the Isle of Wight in your itinerary, you'll enjoy it. Let me know you're coming and I'll show you around.

Hi albion - thanks for your PM, only just read it!
I hadn't come to the IoW either until we started looking to move house, but gave it a try and found we liked it. Has a much more laid-back pace of life than the mainland, although it's not "backward" in any way. There's a bit of everything here, it's like a microcosm of England, and you can get just about anywhere on the island in 1/2 hr or less!
I looked at some used Macs in marinas on Hayling Island until I found the one I bought on the Beaulieu river.
Coincidence you live in Medina OH, that's the name of the main river on the IoW (where I hope to be parking my X come spring)
Cheers

Hi Matt - I do indeed

I've joined the UK Mac Owners Association, though everything's pretty quiet for the winter. Are you a member?
Hopefully by spring I'll have the boat sorted, and there'll be some meets, cruises or whatever and I'll get to meet a few other owners - looking forward to it
Cheers

Hi Rick
i joined the Uk mac owners association,i bought my 26x in August but so far have not taken it to sea,ive had her on the river
it was all just too much of a dash to try and get her in the water for the last bank hol weekend, and as i would have had to pay a full years mooring fees in sept i thought id wait untill the new year before i paid for the years ticket.
I looked around the Norfolk coast for a suitable mooring and after seeing 6 macs in Wells Next the Sea,i thought id stick it there.
Im looking forward to going on some of those owners meets

Hi Matt
I got mine in October, and not yet launched it off the trailer (I hope she floats

). Been sitting on my driveway since, and needs some attention and tidying before I can take it on the water next spring.
So far I've managed to get the motor sorted, which was a bit of an issue, but I've been up to my neck in "home improvements" (i.e. doing the kitchen) so haven't had much time for the boat

. And now it's too darn cold to do much work outside

.
Come spring I expect to keep it dry-parked at a local marina with a launching ramp. This is a fraction of the price of a mooring, and saves worrying about things like bottom paint etc. Hopefully it will work out OK, we shall see ...
Cheers
