the admiral and I had a fabulous time in Charleston this past week.We trailed our 2005 26M from knoxville tn to charleston harbor for a 4 nite stay at patriot point. We had not had "It's About Time" in salt water before and we cannot wait to go back. The whole experience was a delight!
Charleston Harbor marina is first rate and the harbor itself is a great place to sail.
Great Trip to Charleston

we learned alot on charleston trip:
-liquid rollers works great to enhance the mac bump..almost too great!
-tidal current is a significant factor! in many ways!
-I am capable of dropping things (like the handle to secure the grill)in salt water just as well as in fresh water
-a Ford f250 diesel crew cab loves pulling a mac (as opposed to our aborted trip with our Envoy last year)
-our mac handles 25 knot winds with ease (reefed of course)
-a cheap matress topper from walmart greatly enhances the sleeping comfort of the mac stock cushions
-wet metal docks are slippery--almost lost the admiral!
-we are terrible photographers
-with a tarp cover/tent, rain is a pleasant background noise when reading or sleeping...8x10 fits perfectly
-the new garmin 378 "rocks" both in car and boat
-that we cannot wait till our next trip...in 3 weeks!!

Hey
Well done. Charleston is on the list.
We are about two hours north of you. Any good sailing around Knoxville? We were considering the river trip down the Tennessee and back up the Cumberland. Have you done any?

Ken--
Best sailing here is typically in Fall,Spring, and mild Winters but this particular summer has had exceptional winds. As a whole we are really river sailers but that's good experience for learning to read the puffs and gusts. There are 5 sailable lakes within 45 minutes of Knoxville and of course you can boat all the way to the UT football games(it's called the Vol Navy after the TN Volunters) since the stadium is on the lake/river.
We have had some experience making passage on the river system(but not up your direction)...it's mainly motoring with occasional sailing opportunities...while we haven't done it, you have several locks to go through but apparantly that's no big deal. There are several folks at our yacht club who have made the trip down the tom bigby waterway to the gulf.
If you do get down this way give me a shout and I can arrange a transient slip for you at the club (Concord Yacht Club)
