A Great Fiberglass Product

Post by Dave X2000 Jac »

Hello Group,
This posting is in reciprocation for all of the great ideas you have
given me over the years. Since I trailered my 2000X home when it
was new, I have done nothing to the fiberglass beyond an annual
springtime scrub with brush and hose . Even though the Mac is in
the water (fresh) only 20 - 30 days per year, what I was doing could
still be defined as neglect. This year I decided to give the fiberglass
a little shine. After doing the brush and hose thing, I smeared on some
3M Marine Fiberglass Cleaner and Wax (For lightly oxidized finished).
The sides look great. Not wanting to spend all that much time under
the Mac, I didnt scrub the bottom ahead of time. I applied the 3M
directly over the road grime and axle grease stains. I rubbed with a
foam applicator I had left over from waxing a van. I used an old T-shirt
to wipe off the wet brownish-gray crud, then I used an old diaper to dry it
and polish it. It sincerely looks like new. The little bit of rubbing
compound in the 3M did more than I thought was possible. The key is
to wipe off the crud and bring it to a shine before it hardens, but you
have a reasonable time window for that. of the fiberglass looks great
- now about the deck. Will the 3M make the deck slippery? I guess Ill
test a small area where a seat cushion will rest to determine if this
product can be used topside as well. I just thought you might like to
hear about a boating product that does what it advertises.
Well be in the water soon,
Dave Jac
p.s. Wal Mart, $9.00 per pint. The sides and bottom took 1 1/3 pints.

I wouldn't put ANY kind of wax on the nonskid surfaces of the boat, EXCEPT the Aurora product that Timm mentioned. (It's called Sure Step)

Wax will make the surfaces slippery, particularly when wet.

The Aurora product will not only make the nonskid shine like new, it adds traction.(if used as instructed) Yet dirt doesn't stick to or stain the nonskid. I know this sounds like an advertisement, but it's not. I've used this stuff on my last 2 boats and I'm just very pleased with the result.
