Etec leaking oil

Yesterday, I discovered my transom well full of oil. What a mess. I recently filled the oil reservoir and had the boat in the slip. Tilted the engine up and left it overnight. I decided to go for an evening sail after work. I was having a great time until I saw the slimy mess while under sail with the boat heeling. I opened the cover and saw no active leak, even with engine running. Tilted up, no leak, though 3/4 of the oil was already gone. I always tighten the cap hard, so hard that it's very difficult to remove. Checked to make sure and such was the case. No idea how the oil is leaking out. Anyone else experience this?

Yes I experienced this my Etec 60. The dealer said there is a problem with the gasket on the top. He replaced the seal and now it's fine.

I'm taking her to the shop on Wednesday. The leak is quite serious, though only while the engine is tilted up. I left it in the slip and will get the repair done next week. Hopefully, I don't have 300 hrs on it yet so the work can be done under warranty. Well get the 3 yr service while I'm at it.

My 60 had a oil leak from the where the tank seam split and had to have the tank replaced. Then they screwed up the pump somehow and now am waiting for a new pump.... Problem also fouled the plugs, carbonized.
Anyone pleased with the gas mileage?

Your dealer will have a new clamp for the oil tank fill, might need a new gasket so call him first. The replacement is under warr. and will take 5 min! But, call ahead so you don't have to wait on overnight mail. Don't do this yourself, the clamp is not so simple.

I'm bringing it to the dealer this week for a new prop and motor controls. He can fix the leak at the same time. I'll let you know what it turns out to be.

My '05 50 etec also leaked oil when tilted, it was the
stainless clamp, installed improperly. Later, when I
put the boat in the garage for storage, the next morning
there was oil on the floor with the motor down, took some
pictures to show the dealer and they replaced the oil tank.
Which was split.
