Broken Spreader

We had gone out sailing this weekend and the cap brok on our starboard spreader. Does anyone have a fast fix for this?

I hate to confess to this....... but I split a cap and frayed wire.....
Whipped the wire...
Quick and dirty solution was a shallow circular groove around a golf ball, very lightly,... takes very little to hold it in place... and a little vertical slit in the outer edge......... held in place with that magical duct tape....
got me home.
Next time I dont have a spare.... I will use the crutch pads I carry for the trailer. and stuff them on the end and groove that.
But I carry a spare spreader now. Courtesy of those friendly people At BWY, who are always prepared for my next debacle.........mast twisting, dockslicing, valve shattering, glass scratching,
Which reminds me..... time to order another forstay for a CDI FF... a little frayed on the upper end..........
The other item just as cheap is the round metal table leg insert pads available at home depot and lowes.......tho they will probably only last one season. Lots of diameters available and black and white nylon.

Waternwaves, I am sorry but I have to ask... how did you come about to have a golf ball on your boat? Do you hit a driver off the foredeck? If you do, I hope you were aiming at a powerboater making wakes in a no wake zone!

I have come close to hitting the no wake zone buoys with a ball from my N1 driver.........
not from the boat.......
But... there are some wonderful courses around the sound....... and clubs should always be handy if it is just me in the boat.

Does anybody know a web site that I could order the spreader and tips for a Mac X.
I tried to use a dealer, and did not work, they never place the order.

The quickest & easiest approach would be to phone the
Macgregor factory in Costa Mesa.
They don't accept credit cards so you'll need to mail them a personal check, but it's prolly quicker than getting a dealer's attention in mid-season.

But I carry a spare spreader now.
As do I excpt mine are home made from stock purchased at the local metal yard.
A search will reveal many threads on this BTW.

Thanks guys,
I did make a homemade spreader using alumminun tubing,(the one for carpot)I know is no the right rate, but it works fine so far.
About amount ago, I placed an order through a dealer in the West Cost of Florida, they took my info and cc, but never happen, I failed to take the name of the person that took my information, very odd situation.
They told me that price for a pair of spreader were like $57.00 plus shipping.
I will call CA
