Thanks to Highlander

I wanted to give a big thanks to John (Highlander) for his help. He put me on to some sternrails(my starboard one is gone) and the top of my mast was naked. No masthead, blocks, etc.

Yesterday UPS brought me new sternrails and a new mastcap for my soon to be renovated M19. I tried to raise the mast and believe that the shrouds are to short. I have the 3/4 rig. The triangle is 19'4" high, base is 44"(to shroud connection on gunnel) so the hypotenuse is 19'9". When I deduct the fittings and adjuster that comes to a minimum wire lenght of 18' 7 or 8 inches. The one that came with the boat was 18'.

The motor turns over(starter works) but I have not yet connected fuel or a battery to the battery connection. I just put a starter battery direct to the starter. The motor is a 1992 40hp Johnson.

The sails are being washed. I'd like to take the boat to a detail shop-very dirty. Thats what you get at a salvage auction.

Oh, BTW, the PO's name was Shore Thing out of Hilton Head.

Back to work. Hope to see some of you all on the water. I live in Greenville, SC and sail the lakes of this area.

Dan

My other inventory is a Nitro bassboat, a ComPac 16, and a now renovated Dyer Dhow. Yes I do need to find a local chapter of Boaters Anonomous.

I was wondering if I also have a problem..

4 windsurfers plus zillions of sails/mast (used to consume my life)
4 ice boats
1 canoe
5 kayaks
1 Hobie 14
1 Catalina 16
1 Mac 26S

Odd thing is I NEED all of it. :|

Walt,
The first step to recovery is admitting we have a problem. I'm not sure we are there yet.

I'm four steps into my 12 step method. 1 Jon Boat, inflatable dinghy, 18' center console, a 26M and I am looking to pick up a ComPac 16. Found a nice one in JAX. I don't think my wife can understand why I need these type of things in my life. Only 8 more boats to go!!! 8)

Yup, you guys are all doomed. You are way beyond 12 or even 13 step help. You are sentenced to suffer in this miserable condition for the rest of your lives. This will be a long long time considering how much exercise and stress relief you are getting.

Suffer on Lads!!

I've tried to switch vices by weekly visits to Harbor Freight and Northern Tools but all that happens is that I have more tools to use on my boats. If I'm good and work hard all week my wife will sometimes give me the tool and coupon flyers she hides out of the mail and drop me off at the store for an hour or so. I have the stores in Charleston and Jax locked into my GPS. 8)

Man, you guys are in bad shape.

I was thinking that wanting a Mirror Dinghy as a tender-cum-play sailer was possibly too much!

Well, fortunately I only have 12 steps to take care of. Apparantly Kmclemore has 24 steps to go because of the dual nature of his problem..
