Sailing in Long Island Sound

We've been going to Long Island Sound for the past 6 years with our 26x and have decided to change our routine a bit, and we're looking for some advice. We are planning on staring in Mystic in sailing east, with a possible excursion to Block Island. I'm interested in ideas on places to put into between Mystic and Narragansett Bay. According the the Cruising Guide, there doesn't seem to be much in between. Anyone have any suggestions on interesing places to stop? Also, has anyone taken their 26x to Block Island? If so, any advice (of usual precautions about weather and tide are a given).

Thanks,
Gary Gabriele

We get out to Block Island once or twice a summer. It's my favorite destination, like Cape Cod and MV used to be when I was a kid.

The biggest issue we have with BI is beating from Narragansett Bay against the summer's SW wind. Usually end up motoring about half way.
Fog can be an issue out on the Sound, but we're never had a problem.

From the west, just watch the tides & currents. From the east, just stay outside the BI buoy to avoid the reef/ sand bar that juts out the north end of the Island.

Once in the harbor, if anchoring make sure the anchor is well set. Lots of boats drag (including one down on me in a squall last year).
