Inventory of Lines

Post by Carlos »

Has anyone taken the time to put together an inventory of the lines (length and gauge) on a 26x. I own a '99 and I'm considering replacing the majority of the lines; rudders, halyards, sheets and centerboard line.

What's the method for replacing the CB line?

Thanks in advance for the assistance,

Carlos :macx:

Welcome sailor! I have my X-boat on the west coast, but my parents live near you, in Edgewater MD. And another member here, Tony D, is also in Mayo. You can use the Location field of your profile to also record your boat & motor details.

Assuming that you don't want to get wet :) the most common approach is to drop the CB on the trailer. The hanger bolt is accessed thru the forward dinette seat, just atop the CB trunk. The hanger is securely attached with 5200 adhesive, so various methods are used to break it free (sledge hammer, chemicals, or prying it free from the bottom w/a 2x4). This drops the forward CB to the ground, permitting the aft board to clear the trailer bunks. You can use the old line to pull a new one through the compression post to the cabintop.

There was a post on exactly your question about the inventory of lines.
Search on the terms [length of mainsheet], & click "all terms."

Thanks for the quick reply, Frank. I'll follow your recommendation on the CB line replacement. I keep my boat in Mayo at Holiday Hill Marina but I actually live in Northern VA (Herndon). It's a long haul from the house but the sailing area is worth it!

I purchased a complete set of running rigging for my 26S from the Cajun Trading Company that hiram6 listed in his post with the ebay link. I was extremely happy with their service and product, and I believe the cost was around $190.

Halyard length

Post by atzserv »

I can see by the post above that the halyard length for the 26M is 64ft. Does anyone know what the length should be if making it a halyard line aft?

I use a 75 ft. main halyard led aft on my M.

Carlos... I am at Holiday Hill as well, must have missed your boat. I didnt notice any X's there. Are you slipped or trailered?

Inventory of Lines. . . ???? Geez, did I ever misread this thread title.

I was all ready with:
"My slip or yours?"
"Ever been to sea, Billly-Jean"
"If anything's gonna happen, it'll be out there."

- sorry, but it's been a great day on the water.
Cheers all,
Rick
