Sale of the Famed Enterprise Sea
Posted: Tue Jan 10, 2006 3:49 pm
My dear MacGregor friends, I am moving one step closer to the reality of buying a Blue Water capable boat (Pearson 365) and setting off on a grand adventure. I just placed an ad to sell my much beloved Enterprise Sea 2004 26M in the MacGregor Classified ads. I have had butterflies in my stomach all day over this, but sometimes you have to sacrifice a known good thing in pursuit of what you think will be an even a better thing. Thats how it works, right? .riskrewards.linked together and unfortunately inseparable, you cant have one without the other? That may sound corny, after all we are only talking about resin and glass here, but you all know that a MacGregor is more than the sum of its parts. It represents something different to each owner and family, to me and the Boren family, it represented a huge first step in clarifying what are the important things in life.family. In the 18 months weve had our MacGregor, we made 48 boat trips of varying length and aggressiveness, but with each day on the water, I and our whole family have unforgettable memories that revolve around my family. My sons first grade teacher asked my wife if I worked on a sailboat because almost all of my sons crayon drawings consisted of a Blue Hulled Mac, complete with a black M on the mainsail. So as my wife and I came to this Pull the trigger decision at 1147PM last night, we commented to each other that we dont regret buying the Mac for one moment, just as we didnt regret other learning experiences and first loves in our life, because they all go into the mix and mortar of who we are today, the type of people we are, and where we will go tomorrow. And with the blessings of the almighty, creator of the wind and sea, we will be gently carried to that distant shore, where the grass is indeed greener!
Below are some of the boat details and Photos.
Listed for sale is a Model year 2004 Blue Hull (No.530) MacGregor 26M sailboat powered by a Honda 50, with approximately 45hrs of engine run time for $28,000 OBO. Both the boat and engine are in excellent as new condition. The engine was serviced in December 05 as part of routine maintenance, where new spark plugs and engine and lower unit oil was changed. The boat has always been trailer stored and is currently kept at a mast-up storage facility in the Channel Islands Harbor located in Oxnard, Ca where it is awaiting your inspection. The 2004 26M is the open salon version, which I found more desirable over the current 2005-2006 model year 26M with its sliding galley and dinette layout. The current model year 2006 26M can be purchased new for $32K at H&S Yachts plus sales tax ($2,300) for a total new boat cost of $34,300, which will give you a bare bones boat still in need of much equipment at considerable cost which is included with this boat purchase. Receipts for included equipment with sale of boat totals $4,750. To crunch the numbers you could spend $34,300 for a new boat with another $4,750 in equipment and upgrades totaling $39,050 or you can get a great boat 19 months old in as new condition for the asking price of only $28K. That is a savings of slightly over $11,000 savings for a boat that is ready to go to Santa Cruz Island on day one! All receipts from day one of boat ownership along with all owners manuals will be included with boat for complete documentation. The Honda 50 motor came with a 3 year warranty, which started in June of 2004, and is transferable to the new owner, which will keep the motor under warranty until June of 2007. Option is available to keep the boat in its current mast-up Channel Islands Harbor storage facility where they put and remove the boat from the water for you for $105/month, which means there is no need to mess with a costly tow vehicle. An option is also available to include a Garmin GPS/Depth sounder model 178C for an additional $350 (unit retails for $700). An arrangement for a sea trial can be made at both parties convenience and I will include a full day boat systems and operation session including a sail out of Channel Islands Harbor. The reason for the boats sale is the desire to move up to a larger blue water capable boat for extended worldwide Cruising and as every one knows trying to have two boats is like trying to have two wives!
