I'm going to be visiting Portland Oregon this week. Staying from Wednesday through the following Wednesday.

I was thinking about taking the boat and camping. As my days are free, I thought I might explore the Columbia and Willamette rivers.

Is there anybody familiar with the Portland area that can make some suggestions for a marina? I really would like to be close to downtown Portland with convenient parking so that I can do my people visiting in the evening.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello:
For close in downtown fun the marina on the Willamette at the south end of the sea wall, just north of the Ross Island bridge has extended transient moorage. It's right by the Newport Bay Restauraunt and all the water front businesses. Quite a few bridges to go under. I will check my cruising guide for clearences. I think the only bridge to give you trouble is the railroad bridge but they keep it open unless a train is scheduled. If you are towing in you could launch at Willamette Park on the west bank between the Sellwood and Ross Island bridges. Best sailing is on the Columbia River. I think a couple of Mac owners, who frequent this site, moor at Tomahawk Island. Maybe they could arrange something at their marinas.

I dont know your schedule, but if you have time I would suggest you try a bit down river, Cathlamet WA, a small quiet river town, nice Marina, about one hour drive to Portland. Or even Astoria OR , a lovely coastal town nice marina, about two hour drive to Portland. Either of these would allow you to see the lower Columbia without the hassle of downtown Portland river traffic and access.
