Anyone know of a way to track marine fuel prices w/o having to call every marina along the ICW?

Hi All!

As some may have noticed the recent spikes in marine fuel prices has been somewhat abrupt and a bit more than intimidating.
We’re not interested in the cause which is outside of anyone’s control but rather in finding a way to shop around for the best price we can get as we plan our travels on the Mid Atlantic portion of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) in the next couple of weeks. As we utilize a dual 12 gallon fuel system costs add up!

Yesterday’s price for fuel at our marina just went up yet again:

That’s more than a 35% price increase!!! :o :? :|

With a boat it’s not quite like when in your car where one can do a drive by and check signage for a price.
Typically it involves making multiple phone calls and then juggling the answers with respect to what marina has an available slip for the night. Often this approach can be frustrating and wastes time. In the past, Just getting whatever price a marina pitches wasn’t a big deal cost wise but with prices climbing on a daily basis it would be nice to know that while one marina might have slip available for the night there is another marina that has fuel available at a lower price.

There are a couple apps and sites that monitor and publish local automotive gas prices by locale but I was wondering if anyone knew of something I might be able to access via a smart phone or table?

Hopefully there’s something out there that could help extend our fuel budget …..

Best Regards,

This might be out of the box thinking, but in todays on-demand internet order world I got this from a Google AI search. Might be a useful alternative to buying from the Marina. I avoid e-10 fuel as much as possible, as it has given me many problems, you may be able to get fuel delivered

We have an app for that locally in Puget Sound, San Juan islands. I do think they actually call or email each marina periodically. You might find that there is a similar service in your area or you could set up your own email list automatically send an email to each marina at regular intervals. Also there is an app on Google Play called Fuel Docks that might be helpful.

Hi Dustoff!

It’s a good ‘out of the box’ idea!
Buying in bulk could be an option but local fire inspector (& my home insurance company :D :o :? ) might have some concerns about residential bulk fuel storage of several 55 gallon tanks in the garage or green garden shed….. :| :D :D
If I was a bit more out in the countryside it wouldn’t be an issue though. So good thought! Thanks!

Hi Rsvpasap!

This is a little more my speed!
I’ll get onto Google Play and see if the app extends to covering the Mid Atlantic ICW region.
It would be nice if it did!
Thanks!

Hi Sailmeaway!

Wow! 8) 8)
Thank you!
This link is perfect!
It shows not only the fuel prices but also the locations, phone numbers, AND the marina capabilities all at the same time!

This is serendipity in real-time.
We just purchased a subscription to Waterway Guide for the navigation capabilities yesterday!
We did not know that this guide also had real-time fuel pricing display functionality as well!

Your suggestion is spot on!
This will make our upcoming ICW planing and travels tremendously easier and better.
Thank you!

Best Regards,
