Macgregor 25 companionway bulkhead

Post by figure99 »

New to me 1983 Mac25 that I'm currently replacing all the wood bits in the interior. The original bulkhead under the companionway was so bad it basically just fell apart, so I'm making a new one. My question is regarding the angle from the cabin floor up to the opening seems to be enough where the bulkhead will not fit flush against the shell of the opening if that's making any sense. Does anybody have a side few pic of their bulkhead?
Here is a pic of the general condition of the wood bits, and after I got some cleaning done.

The angles absolutely do not line up. This was solved (more like hidden) by the foam on the decorative ‘headrest’ panels. Attached is a picture of the area from when I bought my boat.

When I ditched the headrest panels, I ended up making my own tapered plastic washers/shims to solve the angle issue. I used 3 per side: under the nut (inside), between the bulkhead and cockpit structure, and under the bolt head (outside). This allowed the bolt to pass horizontally through the stack up and be tightened down without bending anything too much.

Sumner made many mods to the interior of his boat. You might get some ideas from his site.
