Wildfire near our marina

This fire just started. It's just over the hill from our marina. Kind of scary. 500 acres so far. A plane fighting the fire crashed and the pilot perished. Sad to hear.

That is kinda scary having that fire being so close.

On one of our many trips to Lake George, NY, there was a forest fire on an mountain about three miles (4.8km) away from our cabin. The difference being, there was a three mile wide lake between it and us. It made for some entertaining evenings watching that fire.

Russ, from looking at that photo, I only see what look like a sprinkling of shore power posts. Does every slip have shore power?

This fire is over the hill in the next gulch. I haven't heard an update yet today. The marina is 90 miles from my house and the fire is probably 5 miles away from the marina and I'm sure our boat is covered in ash.

This morning it looks like the smoke is everywhere. Won't be going to the lake today.

Our marina is 100% off grid. No power or water on the docks. There is some water on the fuel dock, but I bring my own from home in 5gal jugs.
What you see are fire extinguisher stands with life rings and also the cable posts that adjust the floating docks.
This is the "shallow" end of the marina and all the keelboats are on the other side (behind the camera view)

This is the view from my new spreader mounted camera. The camera and cell phone providing internet is all off grid solar powered.

They evacuated our marina. Fire is getting bigger. My son asked me if the boat is insured.

Well at least we can watch it live until the cell tower goes out.

Oh man. That camera must be both a blessing and a curse for you right now as you watch things develop. Good luck

Fire is up to 11,000 acres. Fortunately it’s moved more north. The road to the marina is closed so we can’t go up there

Boat and marina is safe for now.

They still won't let anyone in or out on the only road in except to evacuate. Lookin at my boat's camera, there are some campers around the marina who have stayed.
Hoping soon we will be able to go up there and check on the boat.

Sure hope your boat comes through it ok, and they can get the fire controlled without further loss of life.

So far, there has been no loss of life or homes. Probably because the fire is mostly in the mountains away from people and they are blocking it from moving towards structures.

The remained at just under 12,800 acres. All Evacuation Orders are transitioning to Evacuation Warning status. Areas will be open to residents only, proof of residency is required.
The Horse Gulch Fire is considered 0% contained as of Monday morning.

At least my Mac Cam is working and I can live vicariously through the camera.
