Does anybody know if there is a nut on the back of the screws that I need to get access to? I want to take the oval plate off to clean the old sticker off and put on a new one. 2006 26M.

I always thought the whole thing was stuck on with double-sided tape. No?

I took the slow easy way.
After twenty years, both emblems fell off, leaving blank plexi ovals. When we get home, I now need to order from BWY.

It's a piece of Lexan and glued and screwed. I used a heat gun to melt the glue and it came off after the screws were removed.

Glued and screwed? That sounds like more trouble than it’s worth. I think I will do it in place.
Thanks for the information. You saved me a lot of trouble.

Isn’t there some sort of solvent, or a hair dryer you can use to remove the decal.
Have you tried emailing Todd from BWY for hints at removing the decal?

Great idea.
Heat is the secret.
I bought a cheap heat gun from Harbor Freight. I use that tool so much.
When I removed the plate, I still had to use the heat gun to remove the decal. I suppose I could have done it in place.

My 2006 26M had a MacGregor 26 sticker on the black plastic oval that faded away after ten years in the hot Texas sun. I did not remove the black plastic oval from the boat. If I recall it was relatively easy to remove the old sticker. I did not even need to get out my heat gun. Just a razor blade and a quick wipe with Acetone.
This video from Practical Sailor shows an easy way to remove vinyl stickers from a boat.

I had vinyl lettering with my boat's name made at boatus.com back in 2015. I don't recall the exact price, but I think it was less than the $23.50 that bwyachts.com charges for a replacement. The picture below was taken with my iPhone about five minutes ago. The lettering is getting a bit worn after nine years so I should probably order replacement lettering.

Ixneigh was going to have a stainless steel oval made which would be a more permanent solution.

Any folks interested in this topic may want to see these posts. Note, however, that the price has gone up since 2021…
