I'm planning on running my halyards aft this spring, and I'm going to be installing the BW Yachts mast base with side angles on it. As anyone done this job, was there much too? I'm only one season into boats and sailing, but I'm pretty handy. Before I dive in I want to make sure that there isn't some difficulty involved that I haven't predicted. Thanks!

If you are referring to these: https://shop.bwyachts.com/product-p/3433-1m4.htm

Yes, I have done it and it's not bad at all. Four bolts, two on each side with 5200 gooped properly.. The one caution is maybe get a block of wood that matches the current distance/angle your existing brackets take.

When I did mine, I toed the front in ever so slightly and the mast raising system no longer fits between them nicely.

On the underside if I remember correctly, I had to remove the mirror and wood paneling around the dagger board with some of the foam too. But it all went back together easily.

I did a similar mod on my 26M,

several yrs later I had issue,s with a water leak on the Port side at the front base bolt I think was due to not having the bolts for the front MRS & rear mast swivel base bolt good & tight thus allowing the angle brkt to flex when pulling the halyards tight as u r only pulling on two bolts thus eventually breaking the seal around the roof & dagger board trunk as when I took my MRS off I removed the base mounting bolt with it so the front base brkt bolt on the port side was taking all the stress which eventually led to the water leak. so if u keep the MRS mounting bolt in place & tight & keep the mast swivel brkt mounting bolt tight the base brkts can,t flex or bend as in my mod as they basically become one base brkt & all four base brkt bolts r taking the stress & load I hope u can read me on this . Think by doing that the two base brkts basically become a one plate brkt supported by all four base bolts & the two MRS & mast swivel brk bolts .

If I was to install these mast base brkt,s I would still keep the MRS & mast swivel base bolts tight for the same reason as above , the flaw in my design Mod is that the load is pulling up directly on the inside of the mast base brkt & the dagger board/roof top joint & pulling up directly on the base mounting bolts. Where as the BWY mast base bkts design is pulling the load more sideways from the outside of the base brkts & further away from the d/b trunk/roof joint .

So I may actually buy a pair of these for the same reason as they were not avail at the time I done my mod , hope u can make sense of what I,m trying to explain lol

FYI . I also have two of these mast mounted swivel base pulleys with cam cleats mounted on either rear side of the mast next to the mast slot as seen in this pic

Just some more fuel to the fire as they say LOL

I like this solution. Becouse you can use the cam cleats working when you are at the mast (reefing, clearing sheets) but also from the cockpit.
