Hello All,

This weekend I bumped my outboard and it fell to the floor and cracked the "case".

How tragic is this?

Is this a total? Is this a it can be welded? or is this cosmetic?

Looks like cast Alum. can b weld with special alum cast welding rods most likely , but eng. may have to b stripped down to have it welded so how old is the engine if u r able to strip it down & rebuild urself after getting it repaired & get a quote first , if it,s an old motor maybe just buy another used same eng & either keep the old one for parts or sell it for parts to re-cooperate some of the replacement cost

Back the camera up a bit so we can get oriented. Need a wider shot.

If it broke the casing where it only serves as a cover, then no biggie. If it cracked where it mounts to the boat, or where the power head bolts to it, could be bad.

If it's only cosmetic, marine Tex or JB weld might hold it together.

Like Highlander says, you can probably find a similar model at an outboard scrapyard and swap parts to get one runner.

Here's a video of a guy using some low-temp aluminum brazing rods,in case you haven't seen them. Don't know if you'd be able to DIY the repair with that process, but wouldn't cost much to try.

That a tragic day alright!

The advice to get a better picture would help understand actually where this damage is located.

From what you have provided there is a fracture moving into the main section of the case which will propagate over time.
But all is not lost if this is where I suspect it is located.

I’ll hold off until some larger area pictures are posted.

That looks fixable to me. Check and see if anything is attached behind the piece like wiring/ cables/ fuel lines etc. Cast aluminum doesn’t keep cracking, it breaks or it doesn’t. If it’s not a stressed part you should be able to JB weld it. If it is stressed then welding will be required. Hardest part will be getting all the pieces together all at the same time without any pieces moving while tacking pieces together. You might be able to drill tiny holes, glue, safety wire it together. Or just wire it together then have it welded. Here are pictures of a drone I ran into a tree that I fixed using that method. I drilled the holes on each side of the pieces I wanted to hold together , then wired loosely, then jammed some epoxy into gap. Then tightened the wires. If you get enough epoxy on inside, you maybe able to grind/ sand the exterior surface flat and paint. The drone flew perfectly after btw
