Snow is a normal thing here in Eastern Washington, and we usually accumulate a couple feet in the yard over the course of the winter. What happened the other day was anything but normal, however. We set an all time record with 3 feet in 24 hours, and we got 4 feet within 48 hours. A couple pieces of pvc pipe framework which supports the boat cover broke from the weight before I could rake the snow off. Easily fixed with a few new fittings and some pvc glue. It took me 8 hours and 6 tanks of gas to snow blow my driveways clear. Pretty amazing event. I didn't take pictures of the boat, but the snow pack on top of the cover can be seen in the lower right of the first photo. Check out the rear view mirror sticking out in the last picture. That's my boat hauling truck, buried in snow.

Four Feet of snow in two days time!
When we got three feet many years ago in NH I had to start while it was only half way through the storm so the old “Belch Fire I” Sears Craftman Drift Breaker 8 hp snow blower could handle it!

Beautiful to look at but the next thought is where on earth are you gonna put it???

We’re up in NH for the Holidays and since we got here on the 19th of December the pond has gone from liquid to solid enough for the snowmobiles to race about, the “ bob houses’ for ice fishing to show up and even for the neighbors to take it upon themselves to make a hockey/skating ring!

Hope to get back South by February 🏝 🏖 after some unanticipated mandatory minor surgery has become necessary and the post op recovery ( if the COVID-19 cases don’t continue to overwhelm the Hospitals here). Already had a week’s delay and one date cancelled. Hopefully the reschedule for this week works out. It is so sad to see this COVID-19 surge happening and so many people requiring hospitalization for something that they could have been vaccinated against and would have had only minor symptoms. It’s just so frustratingly ….Please get vaccinated if you haven’t already…if you have been vaccinated then Please get a booster if you haven’t already.

I didn't have the option of starting to blow the snow halfway through the storm. Only 6 inches or so when I went to bed. Pretty amazing when I got up next morning. The funny looking close up picture of snow heaped into narrow pyramids was our deck and railing. No wind, so the snow just stacked up on the deck railing. It snowed all day while I worked to clear the accumulation, and next morning I had another 10 inches to deal with. The City's response here has been amazing. Crews have been working 24 hours a day. All streets opened on the first day, alleys opened next day, and they've hired a small army of contractors with big wheel loaders and dump trucks to widen out the streets, clear intersections, and dig out fire hydrants. Mayor declared an emergency and the National Guard came in to do welfare checks, which translates to helping dig out driveways and make sure old folks like me can get to the grocery, phrm-xd or doctor appointments. A website coordinates the needs, and emails from the City's communications director keeps residents updated with timely information. Lots of neighbors helping neighbors going on.

Back in the very early seventies (70-72), when I was dating my eventually to be wife, she went to school in Oswego, NY. Back then, Oswego averaged 10 feet (3 m) of snow a year. Coming from Philly, I had never seen walls of snow like that.

I suggest you invite Al Gore over to help shovel global warming off your paths

I should have also stated that over the last several years, Oswego’s snowfall has been considerably less than the thirty year average. Syracuse, NY has averages more than Oswego.

Buffalo and Rochester (where I am) average 100" a year, and Syracuse averages 120" a year. Coming from DE, southern CT, NYC, and central NJ, it was an interesting change of pace. Most years, the snow is white and stays that way as it snows a little every few days so things never really get that filthy and depressing black crap top layer like down in the metro-NYC area.

Syracuse usually wins the Golden Snowball Award, but not always. And the yearly average moves around from year to year, as you might expect since it's a running average. All in good fun.

But the OP's snow fall is not usual around here. Buffalo's massive snow reputation I believe is mainly from Lake Erie snow cover blowing east right onto the city of Buffalo, not from snow falling directly onto the city. But it's still technically a blizzard when winds are over 35 mph (or something like that).

The record I believe was set in Hooker, NY at 467 inches, or 39 ft, for the season. That's off the east end of Lake Ontario, and I think that Tug Hill area always gets lots more snow than anywhere else in the state.

Syracuse averages 120"

I don't know what Oswego gets recently, but when I used to go there to visit my then girlfriend, Syracuse did not get anything near the lake effect snow that would come off Lake Ontario. Oswego is thirty or so miles due north of Syracuse; right on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. In 2007, 141+ (3.58m) inches fell.

And I was complaining about the very cold 42 degrees this morning in Central Florida. Mike would not have recognized your house.

Mid 50's this afternoon and beautiful weather. Just enough breeze to sail, but not enough to get us wet. Fish boat was calling... No snow, but we did run aground at the mouth of the harbor and had to heel her over to get out.

Headed out of the harbor. My day on the helm, so didn't get any more shots.
