They're a little pricey, but probably worth it considering the power savings (probably about 10AH overnight), and that theoretically you won't have to worry about a bulb burning out.

I think these things could be made into an anchor light wthout much hassle. Does anybody market solar powered marine lighting at reasonable cost? The stuff I googled all seems like overkill.

There are specific requirements that an anchor light has to meet (has to be visible 360 degrees, 2 miles away if I remember correctly)... I doubt the landscape light would accomplish this.

How bright does a light have to be, to see it for 2 miles on the water . I know we can see 60watt porch light a couple miles out when I down at the island . I would think most places a Mac would overnight you might well not be able to get that far away to measure the distance

At $150+ for an anchor light...you put it on an '05 Hunter 46, not a Mac.

One of these days, I'd like the OGM Luxeon light for about 2AH/night vs our 10W incandescent's 8AH/night. Putting it in perspective, the difference is the daily output of a horizontally mounted 25W solar panel... and enough to run the VHF for 8 hours/day and take hourly fixes with the GPS.

While the requirement is that the light be visible for 2 nm, keep in mind that there is a difference in actaully being able to see it for 2nm and it being certified for that.

In other words, you might have a light that can actaully be seen for 2nm, but is not certified for it, and doesn't have the accompanying stamp.

Technically, that light ought to work, but having that certification stamp on the light, if you are ever inspected, or have an insurance claim, etc., may be worth the extra $...

I too have been looking seriously at the Davis Mega lights. The utility model has a cigaratte lighter plug and apparently fouses light out of the top. I was thinking of just hoisting it up a shroud, upside down, when I need it. That way, it would also work as a deck light... By the way, these are supposedly stamped with a 2nm rating. My only issue would be visibility in that narrow cone blocked by the mast...

I've been buying some inexpensive LED lighting for my Mac19 from the following website:

This is alot cheaper than the Davis etc. LED lighting in the West Marine stores! The anchor light and interior lighting considerations really benefit from this being in that you need to leave them on for long periods of time without the motor running. In most cases, you can obtain the same luminence intensity as an incandescent bulb with using only 10-20% of the amperage.

Duane discussed this option a while back as he subscribes to this method.
I chose to mount the Davis Mega Anchor Light permanently. The one that comes with a mounting bracket.

We saw this one at the Seattle Boat Show. Looked pretty good.

I guess so. At $380 for a combo red green running light it ought to be freaking gold plated.
