Installed a new Teak and Holly Cabin Sole in 'boat - used the real stuff:





The varnish I used was 79 bucks for a tiny can!! They guaranteed it was the stuff to use on real teak and holly to keep it from scuffing. They were right - the varnish is like iron - you can slide sharp and heavy crap back and forth over it and it does not scratch:



The wood makes 'boat' smell nice inside.

Nice. I’ve had a 4x8 sheet of teak & holly sitting in my garage for about 10 years... never quite got round to making the floors, but perhaps this will inspire me. What was the finish you used?

That's a story - I WAS going to use 'Ultimate Sole' like we always had in the 70's but it was not until after I ordered the wood that I found out they went out of business! I resolved to use my two part epoxy but was not feeling good about how slippery I knew that would be so I got on the phone with "people" and they told me to use a urethane on teak. I never use urethane because it turns yellow but the "people" assured me it would be the best for interior cabin sole. So I got this stuff:

I tested in on a piece of wood and it did just as the "people' said.
You just roll it out with a foam brush - let it dry, and sand it to 320. Do that twice and then just roll out the final coat and your done.

So I figured while I am doing the floor I will take care of that silly shelf in the head that I have always hated. It's too small for a proper toilet and the expanded floor space makes the whole bathroom much roomier:



Always wanted to fix that.

Yeah, hi kurz - 'boat' is still undercover - been keeping a low profile - the camo cover makes 'boat' blend in with the trees and bushes to hide from the black heeeli-copters overhead that have been trying to find me lately so I'm gonna have a hard time transmitting for just a bit longer.


As you see I'm still mast down under camo maintaining radio silence so the protesters can't find me. I don't even have the GPS running (they can track that you know):



It should be safe for 'boat' to come out soon, and YOU will be interested to notice that there are a few more gauges on that pedestal for 2020. As you can see in the above image 'boat' has a rudder indicator now that also indicates the position of the AP drive. This was a big improvement in the operation of the auto pilot. There is also a new stand alone wind indicator - a second indicator that I added to the mast arch. Really helps a lot on long downwind legs under "wind pilot" mode and eliminates any jibes going downwind under auto pilot. (You know how I like to get my sleep on long legs.)

There are other mods I have done but can't show just yet without disclosing my location. There are still more coming too.

(Did you notice the big black gas tanks? another secret weapon to thwart the enemy - don't tell them! They will have a hard time catching me now!!)

Boat great job as usual. I always like your mods because they appear to have been customized at the factory.

By the way, I have copied your hot water system, even with the stainless ring to trim out the top (ordered from the source you sent me). Thermal wrapped the canister under the sink too. Keeps water warm a long time. The Admiral appreciates you too.

I was also wondering what you did with your old table? I would be interested in purchase. I thought it looked pretty good too.

Do you have any more photos of the head where you increased the floor footprint? I wanted to see if I could make the M26M head into a wet bath and your photos may help.

Did you over lay the existing moulded fiberglass cabin sole or cut out and lay in the T&H panels. I am curious if you dare remove the existing sole and then insert a T&H sole for access to the bilge area between the ribs. I would like to add a flexible water bladder under the cabin sole. It would be the lowest point in the hull and centered. That would keep weight out of the stern. ????

Okay, let me try to tackle this one at a time.

First off, MOB!!! man overboard drill here guys - anyone who knows me knows I strive to keep 'boat' as factory stock as possible in regards to important design aspects like hull shape and rigging and interior liners. I would NEVER cut up the liner that extensively because there is a lot of structural ribbing under there. Let's not go overboard. On that head floor the main structural components are NOT the top of the shelf (in fact it's so thin you can push on it and it bends.) The main structural elements are those curved edges where the shelf meets the liner. I built a mahogany box that is bolted right into those elements in the curve of the step there - that's why I preserved the ends of the step - the fiberglass there is almost 1/4 of an inch thick!! The carpet is hiding the huge bolts that attach a 3/4 inch solid mahogany box that hangs from those edges. There are ZERO structural elements under the step - it's a complete pass thru designed that way to store long items like spreaders, pole, and spars.

As for the main cabin sole: Under that sole is a network of ribs glassed on to the ballast tank making inserting anything larger than a sandwich baggie near impossible. That is no place for a bladder.

So, now the other question: a “wet room”.

The X boat is much better suited for a "wet" room. If you want a true wet room buy an X boat. As for the M boat a "wet" room is there, but it's hiding in the factory design. In this picture I am standing in a pretty roomy shower with full height headroom:




Believe it or not, the M boat already comes from the factory with a hidden "wet room" - it's already designed:




The entire main cabin sole is designed like a bathtub to drain into a hole at the back of the sole near the batteries. The lowest place to put a sump is under the batteries - but that leaves no room for batteries so the next best place is right next to batteries under here:



If your trying to figure out where that is here is another picture - that brown panel hides the stuff you saw in the other pic. This is storage of the shower pan / bathtub -



actually you really don't need a shower pan because the floor is already a well designed bath tub that you can drain into a sump using the hole near the batteries but I had to make a pan - why?

Well, that's easy - just remove the teak and holly floor and throw it under the aft berth mattress!



Here I just threw it on top of the bed but it can fit under the mattress or on top - or even on it's side.

There is more but I may be boring you with blah blah blah.

So, need I go on?

Hey guys, come on - how can you beat this?? A shower with an open top so it's not even hot inside when the weather is warm! See - the shower has a sliding convertible top!



What's the matter? You don't like my shower??

My wife LOVES it! She can take a shower now even when we are in a crowded mooring like Avalon! Have you ever moored in Avalon? They have the boats right next to each other!

I have to admit, for the M, this shower actually seems like the best solution I've seen so far.

It's not elegant, but very functional.
