What will you miss most about your Mac when you size up to another boat?

Or will you ever?

For me it'll be the steppable mast and low draft. I have to go under a bridge to get out and have to lower it each time. I can't see paying for a slip anytime in the next 15 years when I live on the water so all I can see is getting a different trailer sailer.

Upsizing is unlikely, but Taylormade hit most of my favorite traits. Others would be; fast motoring capability; ease of trailer launch/retrieval; ability to "slip" in garage; good support from BWY for parts; big cabin feel in a trailerable boat.

Well since I've only had my 26x for one season and only had it in the water for half of that it might be a bit early to start having regrets :D . My plan is to take the next few years and learn to sail using the MacGregor then move up to either a southerly or endeavor in the sub 40-foot range to sail Florida and the Caribbean in my early retirement. This year my major trip if all goes well is to sail the length of the Chesapeake Bay from Havre De Grace to Norfolk and back 160 miles one way. Since the average depth of the Chesapeake Bay is 12 ft and that is home I think the biggest thing I will miss is shallow draft.

I live in the Prairies and sail on a lake, so the trailerability is an absolute necessity in my case.

If I happen to live by an ocean in the future, I will focus on a 30 ft minimum with a stronger rig. Other place, other boat. But for now I am very happy with the Macgregor which is very well adapted to my usage!

Every winter I get 2 foot itus, and I especially like the Hake 32RK. Every spring I come back to the relaization that no other boat out there is such a jack of all trades like my X. I like the sailing, my kids like being towed or going of to a "private" area for their own beach with their friends. :P

If I ever change to a more "conventional" sailboat, I'll miss the fast motoring and the Mac¡s agility for docking and moving in tight spaces inside the marina.

But that's quite unlikely...

Oh wow like where do I start :D

On solid ground. Parked right next to my workshop and tools.
So so cheap to maintain... Probably the lowest cost of ownership of any yacht out there.
Shallow draft .. the envy of most yachts and many other boats... An anchor moorings dream!
Drop sails and power (with punch) away ... the envy of many sailors when the wind dies.
Away from the barnacles and safe at home... where I ponder on it's next modification 8)
100% Fiberglass construction.... No rot.
No osmosis .... because the hulls greatly reduced exposure to salt water.
Racoon stripes deck design.
Dr Who's Tardis Inspired interior! ... bigger on the inside than the outside :D
Pulling up the mast and rigging ... seriously I love doing this.
Not being a rightful member of this forum anymore :( ... Some great guys here that you'd never find on Facebook.
I could continue .... :)

All the best.
Neo

I'm afraid that the long forum outage has taken a toll on our group.

Just about everything.
I thought that I had a terrific idea. Instead of trailering my Mac down to Florida most winters, why don't I just buy a boat that's already in Florida. So, I went to Craigslist - Florida, found a boat that I thought would work, and bought it.
It took 3 of us just to get the mast up, little interior standing room because of the side decks, etc. etc. etc.
Plan B was it had an aluminum trailer. So, I sold the boat and now I have an aluminum trailer under my Mac 19.
I'm presently getting my 26X ready to sell, and every time that I go inside I see what a great use of space, etc. I have a 26M mast raiser with the winch on the pole so getting the mast up and down is very easy, etc.

Great story Bill. I'm not tall but I've often wondered how good other TrailorSailors are. But as soon as I step inside I turn 180 deegs a walk straight back out again. :D

Yup.
Life changes and have run out of Mac steam. But I do check the threads every day.
