Hello

I want to replace the palstic winch.

So which one shall I take?

Anderson #10
Lewmar #6, standard ocean serie.

Would be great if the wholes will fit with the new screws

I have the original Lewmar #6 winches on the cabin top & added 2 Lewmar # 7 on the aft gunnels
what do u have on there right now !

hmmmm. dont know. I have 2011, with this crap cheap nonsense plastic winches that don't work...

By the way I never use them, just to have at least one, you never know...

You need to check the ratio of the winches, not all winches have the same ratio when you turn the handle to pull them in.

Some have a much coarser ratio, maybe 12 teeth for the pawl to drop into per turn, while others have finer teeth, maybe 24 teeth

I went with the Andersen 12ST. Having the sheet pop out of the camcleat while sailing all the time was the most annoying thing. Putting self tailing winches on the boat was one of my top upgrades and I have never regretted it. They were definitely the most expensive upgrade at about $450 each. I like them so much that they are probably the one thing I would take off the boat if I got rid of it.

I replaced the crappy Ronston cleats with Harken one,s with riser,s & resolved that issue very cheaply I may add self tailing winches r a nice feature on bigger boats but I think they r overkill for our boats , maybe if I got a good deal on a set of used one,s I might break down , but I can think of a lot of other stuff I could use instead for money better spent but it,s all in the eye of the beholder I guess each to his own preference & comfort level , but always still open to other,s options & interested to know how they work out

do you guys seriously use your winches?
in 5 years i have never used them.
they are in a bad place imo. in the way of the dodger, and the dodger is in the way of the winches
my genoa cleats are on the track on the cockpit gunwale.

I use them for the mast raising system and for raising the main. Otherwise no.

well u r right guis. I never us a winch eiterh...

But both winches (Roger's plastic s*it!) do not work anymore.

So at least one I will replace with a good working one. Just to have in case. You never know if once you need it for what maybe you even don't know no yet...

That's interesting. Mine are not plastic, so I supposed a PO replaced them at some point.

no, definetively not, Roger installed them to save money (save money for him...), I got the in 2011 directly shipped from family Laura Sharp...

i hear you kurz, i have often thought about setting up some pulleys on deck so that i could raise my anchor from the cockpit with the winches.
i do agree though, that they are cheap- i ahve had them jamb up a few times, when i have just fiddled with them.

They were original equipment at the time. I have never had a problem with them. But I also seldom use them.

Like others, I am surprised to learn the latest series were equipped with plastic winches. Did that carry over to the Tattoo line?
