For one, there's no motor. Trailer looks new. Overall a nice looking boat. I'd buy it.

I wouldn't recommend buying her sight-unseen, but if you're down there in Florida or thereabouts she might be well worth a look-see for some folks. She looks promising, and those little 19s really do seem to have their own virtues. For one thing, they can be just the ticket for those having to deal with some pain-in-the-ass HOA who won't allow you to park a boat in your own driveway. They are just compact enough to squeeze into your average modern day garage. They've even got a rather clever sleeved 2-part mast system that can be stored in a sort of recess right in the cabin along the port side.

If memory serves, they're designed to get up on plane with even a 40 horsepower engine, though I'm sure some folks have since bolted on 50s or even beefier power plants onto them by now. Still, if economy is a consideration, then you'll typically save all down the line getting a 40hp instead of a 50hp, from just shy of $800 for a new 2017 one ($6,480 for a 40hp vs. $7,255 for a 50hp) to maybe a few hundred semolians for a nice older one, say ten years old. And while the interior appointments are a LOT more spartan than even the most basic and bareboned 26X or M, the 19s still have that Admiral-approved and all-important-for-morale separate comfy head with a door.

So, yeah. My hunch is she's likely to clean up real nice, and with a little luck and with all blessings descending from Neptune's groin and no major unforeseen defects, someone's gonna get a rather nice little runabout and family weekender into the drink for well under 5 or maybe even 4 "boat bucks" by the time the smoke clears, even without an engine coming with the boat, if they do most of the work themselves--even less if they just hang a little kicker motor off the back, but then what fun is that?

I know the guy who owns this... he buys and sells Macs as a side business. I've purchased a jib and random stuff from him. I know of at least four Mac X's he's bought and sold in Orlando and Tampa in the last year. Nice guy for the record and usually the Macs he buys are in excellent shape.

Both the ebay auction and the craigslist ad are history, so it looks like some lucky new owner hopefully just got themselves a bargain. Assuming the new owner's anywhere near Tampa, where the boat was sold, and checks in here on these forums, I should mention that there's a pretty clean-looking 2006 Honda BF50 with controls for sale just down in Bradenton asking $1,700, shown here:



That's just a tad below NADA Guide's low retail value of $1,790, and being on craigslist, I'd guess $1,500 would easily take it. The missing key mentioned in the ad can be bought online for less than 10 bucks. I know this, because that's how I got my own BF50's spare. Obviously, caution and due diligence is key in buying a decade old outboard. If you're like me, with only the vaguest knowledge of outboard motors, then having it checked out by a proper marine mechanic might be advisable, and might even pay for itself in haggling leverage.

Anyhow, that might be how our new owner could get a smokin' hot runabout 19 out there and being all it can be for just about 4 "boat bucks." Whichever way they go, I hope they find their way to these forums. I'd be curious to follow their progress.

That's a nice point. One of the first things I did was go on ebay and buy a ton of spare keys for my Merc 50 HP outboard.

Bilge, where'd you find that Honda? I've got a 99 BF40 currently. For $1500-1700, I might buy it just to have the 10hp and a parts motor.

And unless it's completely worn out, that '99 BF40 of yours might do better than just a "parts donor" on the stern of some 19, maybe even our lucky new owner's, if he or she ever shows up in these forums. After all, unless I'm mistaken those little 19s were designed to have the 40, which is perfectly adequate to get them up on plane, though many do seem to have 50s nowadays.

Actually a different boat, but the same guy selling it. That's a 26 whereas the original boat in this thread was one of the rare 19s.
