Which MFD should I pick for Raymarine Ev-100 Autopilot sys?

Post by whyguruguru »

Hello

I decided to install Raymarine Ev-100 Autopilot wheel system on my 26x. I figured it is also a good time to upgrade my old center console. I have narrowed down a few MFD , but I am not sure how good they are when they are interacting with the Ev-100 autopilot. Would anyone please give me some recommendation on these MFD, Thank you in advance

Here is the list

Raymarine
-ES78 (has a touch screen and physical keypad)
-A78 with WIFI

Lowrance
-HDS gen2 touch

Sigrad
-Go7

Ok acually I would try to keep all my electronics from the same manufacturer if possible. It may be NMEA2000 compliant but you can lose some features by cross breeding.

I like my a78, works great and is completely compatible with the ev100. I agree, stick with the same brand unless you have a compelling reason to intermix.

Most definitely. I also have the EV1 Autopilot from Raymarine. I had a Garmin MFD, and discovered that I then had no way to update the firmware on the autopilot to the latest version that fixed a log of initial bugs. I also wanted to add radar, so I took the opportunity to buy a Raymarine radar/A78 MFD combo pack. It all works awesomely together, and because they're all from the same company, there are no longer any "weird" issues plaguing my setup like before.

Apples with apples...

I was in the process of switching over from Raymarine to Lowrance, mainly for broadband radar capability & now Raymarine came out with their own broadband called Quantum Wireless Chirp Radar :|

My other holdover issue is my Raymarine Auto pilot - which isn't even working right now. So my "fix was to keep my Raym E7d MFD as a backup chart plotter & autopilot interface & wire in the new lowrance MFD. Get the largest & newest screen you can house- pay for it later or over time. Bigger is better for radar & multiple screens. My Lowrance is a 9" vs 7" RayM...

I actually took a wide horizontal box & mounted it vertically to make it fit on top of my pedestal :P

PS: Buttons are better in rain/ wet than flatscreen - get the mix capability
