Just a quick note on the trip

Just to let you know, we met up with Chinook and Lee from Texas down in Cape May NJ. We went outside and rode the gentle swells of the Atlantic up to Atlantic city. Lee is on a M but Chinook and the Jill Kristy are X's. Lee stayed in Atlantic city while Chinook and Jill Kristy are heading north. We will go outside again from some inlet up to Sandy Hook or on up to New York City on Monday or Tuesday if the weather cooperates. Today and tomorrow are wet and windy. Mike posted pics of our 3 boats rafted up in Atlantic City on his loop blog. I will post pics here tonight when we are anchored. We are using SeaIQ for navigation with Active Captain overlaid and it has been great for finding our way, finding marinas, and places to anchor. It uses NOAA maps so the cost is small. Not sure where we will marina up in NY city or Northern New Jersey. Mike and I will discuss that tonight. Clean bathrooms, laundry and safe are the priorities with cost considerations. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

For those who have not been following the blogs for “ thejillkristy” & “Chinook”, here is a photo of the THREE, yes THREE Mac's during a great loop anchorage at the inlet in Atlantic City, N.J., USA

Great progress by all of you and you should all be very proud of what you have accomplished :!: :!: :!:

If I ever get up to NYC I want to make the He.ll's Gate Passage out to Long Island Sound and spend a little time there. I do have one reason, and that is family that lives on the coast in Conn. but would also want to know I went through He.ll's Gate ....

... where timing and understanding the tides is critical due to the currents there.

I'd also like to anchor by the Statue of Liberty as I believe there is an anchorage near there.

It might not be cheap but I would love to spend a couple nights at....

..... for the night views of the city across the Hudson,

Summer,

When you decide to do that trip, you may wish to get in touch with “Gazmn” on the “Ollie Gray”. I believe those are his home waters.

I grew up sailing those waters.
We traveled up from the Jersey Shore to Long Island Sound. Currents on the East River can get dicey. New York Harbor always seems windy and choppy. It is fun to see all the buildings and landmarks along the way.
I heard lore of H3ll Gate catching big tankers and spinning them. I can't remember ever having trouble there. Go during slack water and it's not a problem.

We anchored off the statue of liberty for the centennial in 1986. What a total zoo. Wall to wall boats and morons. Cigarette boats tossing M80s off the back while attempting to cross anchor lines.

Lots of nice harbors on the North shore of LI. The CT side has some interesting places as well. VERY rocky.
I much preferred Block Island to the bigger, trendier Marthas Vineyard or Nantucket.

Yea, lots of memories there.

Thats a big water crossing between Block and the Cape. 26 miles of real Ocean.

Of course, Cuttyhunk on the other side makes it worth it...
