Its been suggested by the Admiral that I upgrade my fuel tanks from two 6 gal to two of anything larger.
The problem is that after the new EPA requirements, nothing fits my 2003 26M.
I heard through the grapevine that there was a 9 gal tank that would fit. Does anyone have any info on what brand that might be? My searches have been futile

4 six gallon tanks. Try different ways of putting the 2 tanks under one seat. They fit. Sort of.

And I wouldn't want to have to handle 9 gallons. 6 gallons is hard enough. I'm not as young as I used to be, after all.

I'd probably go the 4 tanks at 6 gallons each route, personally, unless installing permanent tanks so they don't have to be taken off for filling.

My 26M came with two 12 gallon tanks I don't think I can take them off for filling, is this required for on the water fueling?

It is at the marina I get gas at. Portables have to be on the dock. Permanent tanks don't. So I suppose if you (or someone) were to put an access deck plate in the seat for the fuel nozzle, it would be ok. I don't know what the reasons are for removing the portables, but them's the rules.

Oh, and I'm not allowed to carry a portable on the dock. Big signs to that effect. And my marina doesn't even have a fuel dock, so it's not like that would be taking business away from them.

Portables have to be out of your car/truck at a gas station for safety reasons, static spark, grounding the tank, not sure how that works on today's plastic tanks, or plastic boats, wooden docks?

I have 4 Mercury 6 1/2 gal tanks for a total of 26 gals capacity
As Tom say,s not getting any younger can,t imagine try to carry 12 gal portables !!

Moeller has a 12 gallon low profile that fits under the 26M seats, if you install a 4" access plate over the filler cap. You may also have to trim off the molding pin inside the access plate and about 1/8" off the filler cap vent for a real good fit. I installed one of these last year and a second this year. Keep your tanks full or vented in hot weather as they do expand and push the seats up.

I keep one six gallon tank under the seat and two six gallon Gerry cans in front of the binnacle on the cockpit floor.
The six gallon tank allows room for a cannister style filter and my oil jug plus some other stuff.
The space in front of the binnacle is pretty useless to me anyway. The other underseat area has some water jugs.
I have a way to Refill the tank from the Gerry cans that can be done without a lot of effort or spillage.

I got the "good karma gas kap" and the Moeller 12 gallon low profile tank fits under my seat with no holes.
