We all know what business cards are, but the other day I made new friends. They have a boat and gave me a boat card. They exchange cards with other boaters so they can keep track of all the boating friends they run into.

It sounded like a good idea so I had some made up. Picture of boat, name of boat,my name and email address with cell number.

Just wondering how many out there use boat cards?

We made up boat cards before taking off on our first extended cruise. Most of the cruisers we've met along the way also have cards. It's a really handy way to exchange contact information. It's an easy way for us to share our website and email info. Another thing we like to do is take pictures of other peoples' boats, both underway and at anchor. If you have an email address, it' easy to send copies of pictures of their boat. We all know how hard it is to get good pictures of our own boats while underway. People really appreciate getting pictures of their own boat.

Now THAT is a great idea I haven't heard of or ever thought of!

Years ago, We used those cards (called QSL cards) to confirm contact in Ham Radio . They were postcard sized to send thru mail . Some were quite exotic and colorful

We use both eBoatcards and the traditional "business" type card. I like the eboatcards because you can keep photos and additional information associated with your new friends. Also, if they have given permission, you can see their current positions on the map after departing. The traditional boat card is IMO more personal and of course works better for those who do not use eboatcards.

They are also used in active captain, if i'm not mistaken.

eboatcards is part of ActiveCaptain. It's one of their new pet projects.

been using boat cards for years. have quite a collection from other sailors as well. hand them out all the time. Have active captain, but haven't used eboatcard at all yet
