Purpose Of Hole

I am getting ready to put my 2006 Mac M in the water for the first time. Before I do I would like to know what the purpose of the small holes are above the rudder brackets.
Do any of you know? Also I am trying to post a picture of it. Can you tell me what I did wrong?
Thanks for your help,
Bob

without picture, I'm guessing that you are referring to the hole that would be used for transporting the boat by trailer (when rudder is lifted, it should have a pin or bolt to secure the rudder from falling down and striking the pavement)

If you are referring to the small holes on the transom just above the rudder mounts, these would be drain holes for the steering system.

Yea, I think you are referring to what folks above are describing as drain holes for rudder shafts.
I wondered also.
Like this one.

Depends on where the hole is located...
But yea, rudder system drain.
Don't plug it up. Water will accumulate in the back area of the boat. Oh wait. it does anyway. More water will accumulate...

I was investigating these holes a short while ago. What I found was that there is a void space above where the rudder post enters from the outside and below where the rudder post exits into the rear berth area on the inside. This space seems to be a couple to few inches high with the rudder post running through. The hole is located at the bottom of the space and serves as a drain for any water that gets in around the rudder post.

Upload your picture from your computer to a pic hosting site.
http://www.tinypic.com doesn't require an account or any information at all, personal or otherwise, but you also can't maintain a library. Other sites like photobucket.com require a free account, and you can manage your pics any time after you upload them.
Using tinypic as an example, upload your pic off your computer, and watch the short commercial and answer the security question (if asked - the site doesn't always ask), then copy the link with the ubb code on each end (img and /img at the ends) by left clicking to highlight it, then right clicking and picking 'copy' (or ctl-c on your keyboard) in its entirety, and just paste it into your post (right click and 'paste', or ctl-v). Hit 'preview' to see if it looks ok before finishing the post. Put a blank line before and after that link for best appearance.
That's it. Easy peasy.
Click 'quote' in this post to see what the url with ubb code looks like, uploaded to photobucket, but the format will be the same for any such site.

Yes they are rudder dam drain holes and if you plan on using your boat as a beach house like I do, it is a good idea to have some small plugs just in case you mess up like I did here:

Thank all of you for your post. I believe it is a vent hole and pictures sent to me show that other M's have the same holes.
