Imexus or Tes as big brothers to Mac?

I was just at the boat show and got introduced to an Imexus 29 and a Tex 28.

They seem to be very much bigger brothers to the Mac - water ballast, raisable mast, etc. but with a couple of extra feet (and about 4x the cost).

We will eventually be looking for a larger boat (for more interior space), no more than 32-34' but I'm really going to miss my Mac.

Anyone have any experience with these guys?

The Imexus is made in Poland per the webite, so I wouldn't consider it at all.

The Tes looks to be made in Canada. From the pictures, there is a lot to like. It's got a nice beam of 9' 11". That drop down swim platform is a really nice feature I'd like to see on more boats.

How much was it listed for?

the tes looks nice 125000 for a one year old used 28. i like the smaller one, 55000 for a two year old model.
is it significantly faster then the mac?? for ten grand, i could add alot of fiberglass, and install permanent ballast in my M. for another five i could replace all the fake wood with real wood and redo the cushions.

Curious as to why you would dismiss it that way? Don't know anything about them, or Polish boat-building history for that matter, so just asking.

A lot of European boats are produced in Poland nowadays and everything has to meet EU CE regulations. I can assure you that low quality output simply won't be tolerated in the EU anymore, so build quality wise the Imexus is a very safe bet.

Nothing special about Poland, is just currently the country with the least expensive semi-skilled labor force and business friendly government, in a decade or so it will be Greece probably, who knows.

I think TES yachts are made in Poland, too.

There was another "Big Brother" of the Mac, the Circa 29, made in Spain (near Barcelona). I tested one in 2000, and I liked it a lot... sadly, the builder folded up in 2013.

Looking for a deluxe shoal draft boat? Any of these boats would be high on my list - but hard to haul down to the local boat ramp! :)

Buying new into the next class size boat is for the 1% wealthy.

There are so many good 25-35 foot boats used out there that will sell for 1/2 their asking price

Unless you have a Mac truck, the next size up is a major change on portability and trailer ability.

Just as a datapoint, I have about 32k total in a shared Ericson 32 on a Lake Ontario all in for 10 years...including purchase, upgrades, and slip fees.

Yep. Just fantasizing. Trying to keep as much of what I like while accommodating the Admiral.

Yes. I will miss this. But the Admiral wants more living space below.

(Actually, we haven't done any trailering yet. Thought we'd be all over Ontario plopping it in any old puddle, but having a slip is really nice too.)

Hey Dave, How about posting that picture of your boat again. I used it for my background, I thought it was perfect. I somehow lost it and can't get it back again. thanks if you do. jim
