Will be trying out my first long trip with my new to me 2001 Blazer (with new motor, brakes,wheel joints,tires etc) and factory towing package that I picked up for peanuts this summer.

Looking for the best 3 weeks possible. At the moment I am looking at starting at Hollywood Municipale marina (30$ a day) but nowhere to put the trailer. Followed by a stop at SOUTHDADE MARINA ((10$ a day) hope Raphael doesn't shoot my car AGAIN)to drop off trailer and car. Then planning to sail around the keys looking for the best place to stay for a week or so of good times. Also my daughter should be in Miami for a few days in January so thinking of getting her to spent a few days on the boat probably around Key Largo.

Now just wondering where the closest port authority is to get my sailing permit for the USA.

I would not mind meeting up with some of you guys if you are down there between dec 22 and Jan 9th. Also lookin for a good place to stay In Key largo. Actually Bahai and key largo seem to have interesting state parks and snorkeling sounds like fun, but I really like the beach.

Sailing Permit? What is that?

You are driving down right? Crossing the border by land?
I am unaware of a permit to boat in Florida (or anywhere in the states). I'm curious about this as I've never heard of such a thing.

In the states, the Coast Guard can fine you $100 for each deployed fender under way. Be careful.

The border crossing will not give me a permit to sail in USA waters. They simply allow me to cross with my trailer(a registered motor vehicle) carrying a boat.
When I put my boat in the water they consider that I am landed and I am required to report to a port authority.

As for the peanut galley, I was just leaving port when that photo was taken and must advise USA citizens that there is no time limit for the stowing of bumpers North of the 49th parallel.

I cant wait to buy Canadian gas in the US for 2.30$ a gallon rather than 5$ a gallon over here.

As a Canadian registered bot in US waters you are required to carry a cruising permit on board at all times. Your permit will have your home port (local port of entry. So i would assume somewhere in Florida, where ever you would check in with US Customs coming in on the water from a foreign country.) As you enter/pass through new harbour's / area's you will be required to phone in and report your position with customs. Only the captain may disembark the vessel prior to reporting including all docks and shore landings.

For Example...Our local port is Skagway Alaska in which our permit is registered. We can go to the boat and sail in Skagway waters no problem no reporting. Once we go to the next town Haines Alaska (16 nm) we must phone Haines customs and report our permit number people on board and passport #'s before we get off the boat or plan to be in the area for a while even if not making shore. Note that passing through area's seems to be up for argument between varying customs agents. Some say we have to report some say we don't, so we error on the side of caution and report. NOW..travelling further south to Juneau we must then again report once we get to Juneau waters report with Juneau customs AND THEN on return to Skagway must report at Haines as well as when we return to Skagway even being our home port. Failing to do so can result in a $6000.00 fine or imprisonment.

I have also heard that some jurisdictions require out of state US registered boats to be issued a cruising permit with the same requirements, not really sure but something to check into.

I would just ditch the Canadian flag off your stern and call it good.

However, chances are enforcement in Florida waters is probably high. Good chance of being boarded and expected to provide papers.

Technically you have to carry a ship's radio station licence for le Zephyr. This is question 2 from FAQ's at Transport Canada:

2. I'm planning a trip to the United States. How do I obtain a radio station licence?

Obtain a copy of IC-3020 - Application for a Maritime Mobile Radio Station Licence from Industry Canada.

You should forward your completed application to Industry Canada. A list of Industry Canada offices is provided in Radiocommunication Information Circular RIC-66 on their website.

Most USCG will overlook the radio license but if someone was having a bad day they can nail you for it.

Q1 as far as I understand it, and I'd sure like to know if I have it wrong, you only have to report to US Customs ONCE. So no other Customs permit is needed, unless you leave the country and come back again.

So when you pass over the border with the boat on the trailer you have then reported to US Customs and been inspected, and therefore you don't need to report again when you launch unless you leave the US (and go to, say, the Bahamas) somewhere and then try to re-enter the US. And, yeah, the fines are high for not doing this, and they do watch.
