Re: lifeline replacement...
Mine are all 1/8" coated. BWY sells gates with Johnson pelican hooks (my preferred style) for $100 for the pair. Hard to beat that, IMO, especially since the hooks alone are most of that, and they need a heavy crimper (not the Swage-It type) to install correctly. The fixed lifelines you can make yourself easily.
Just so you know.

Re: lifeline replacement...
I replaced all lifelines on my
this year. I bought all hardware from Defender, including 4 pelican hooks, 2 turnbuckles, 2 quick attache toggles and coated 1/8 inch wire. The system is Suncor, similar with noresman terminals - no need for any special tools, I cut myself the wire at correct length. The advantage is that can be fixed easily at sea by opening the terminal and re-attach it, eventualy shorten the cable a bit. Total cost $261.

While on the subject, has anyone ever changed the lifelines with high tensile lines like Dyneema? CS Johnson makes a kit.
Re: lifeline replacement...
Yes replaced my lifelines with Dyneema. Used the largest diameter that would fit. 1/2 in I think. very comfortable to lean on. Super simple to eye splice to make the correct length.Spector wrote:While on the subject, has anyone ever changed the lifelines with high tensile lines like Dyneema? CS Johnson makes a kit.

Got any pics? Close-ups of the terminations? It's something I'd like to consider, as a winter project.grady wrote:Yes replaced my lifelines with Dyneema. Re: lifeline replacement...
I had custom white vinyl coated lifelines made by WestMarine with pelican hooks on both sides for a total of $270. Needed to do it because I put stern rail seats on.jaycrawford97 wrote:What is factory lifeline size on the 26x? Looking to replace all lines for safety and add pelican hooks...
Need to add that to the boat ad...
Dyneema would be better in every respect however.

I ground off the swages with a disc tool, and then sweated on Suncor Pelicans which were about 12 USD each. I re-used the same lifeline, so my total cost was the Suncors plus two swages.
I will do the same to the front lifelines for purposes of trailering (eliminating spreader dance) as well as being able to load a bow dinghy easier.
As a plus I got four spare vernier chainplates for when I find another boat without rigging....

Sweated? As in solder? Like plumbing?Catigale wrote:I ground off the swages with a disc tool, and then sweated on Suncor Pelicans which were about 12 USD each.

Here is the best one I have. Search for a locking eye splice for single braid. The first one is easy the second one on the same line is tricky.Tomfoolery wrote:Got any pics?
