Most of the boats were supplied with Tohatsu 50's.... How about all the Tohatsu manuals?

Also, I know our trailers are pretty much deviod of any sort of manual, but United Trailers makes a nice comprehensive manual, complete with some pretty nifty warning sticker templates: Trailer Owners Manual (and Another Page of more trailer information documents)

Here's one I found:
1988 MacGregor 26 Owners Manual

Rather than an interoffice envelope, all my manuals, installation instructions, warranties, parts lists, copies of mods from the website, etcetera go in a large three ring binder. I even have a copy of the original bill of sale, and the 26X color marketing brochure, which has the best cutaway drawings of the boat I've found yet.

It's easier to find stuff in a binder than dumping them all out of an envelope and rooting through. I've filled one 3" binder and am starting on a second. Many of the items I save come with the holes already punched. For those that don't, we have a super duty punch at work which does up to 1" thick. As a last resort, you can almost always do them with a 5/16 drill bit. Forstner is best, it makes neater holes.

If you're really ambitious, a few minutes on a database program and you can alphabetize and index them by brand name, function, whatever.

Foirgot to mention the document protectors. They work great for single page stuff as you don't have to worry about ripping out the holes, and for stuff that's too small to punch.

Mine stays on the boat most of the time, except when I pull it out to answer a question on the board, or make a tech phone call, or like that. It's also on the check list of stuff to make sure is in the boat before leaving the driveway, right after beer and toilet paper.

There's not a trip that I don't pull it out to find out what's that little doohickey on the motor that seems to be where it shouldn't be, or how to program the VHF for priority scan, or some other such esoteric BS that my feeble brain is too weak to recall since the last time I looked it up.

My officemates, two of whom bought Macs, appreciated the fact that I was able to easily find and make them copies of some of the stuff, since neither of them received any manuals from the POs.

I try to resist taking stuff out of the rings, because sure as heck it will get left somewhere and I won't be able to find it next time.

I have a Tohatsu M50D service manual that I will scan in as soon as I get some time.

It's also possible to download electronic copies of most owners manuals for electronic gear, such as VHF, GPS, Sounder, and AutoPilot, and either print them out (in whole or in part) or carry them on a CD or notebook, if one wants to archive the original and not carry it aboard. Of course, it's also possible to use the electronic copies as the archive, and carry the original on board.
