All owners,

I just ordered a 12 Gallon Moeller fuel tank and was wondering how exactly others have tied the tank down.
What type of fasteners and straps have you used and where are your mounting points?
Any detailed answer (pic's) is much appreciated

My M came with black straps with Velcro to hold the tanks in place. It is possible the PO had this done ... Good luck. Ron.

My 12 gallons fuel tank has grooves on each side. I cut two pieces of PT wood that fit perfectly in each groove and epoxied them on opposite sides of fuel locker. When fuel tank is lowered down inside the fuel locker it covers epoxied wood completely, takes whole width of fuel locker and looks good

I just looked at the picture of my tank and it too has notches on the bottom. This a great idea maybe complemented with 2 or 4 blocks glued to the fuel locker lid to hold it down. Thank you.

Not sure if your tank is the same as older ones but this is what I did 7+ years still holding up..........

OK, I was able to snap some pictures of what I did for securing the fuel tanks. The longer 2X4 is really just a spacer so the tank does not slide forward. I used PC7 epoxy to secure and caulked the edges just to make it more appealing. I also drilled a hole into the the blocks so I could run a line over the top of the tanks in case I needed more securing. This setup still allows for removal of a tank if needed. and a clean look when finished.
After I figured out what I wanted to do it really only took about 30 min. and less then $15 for epoxy and caulk.
I have had the boat over about 35 degrees with full tanks and there was no movement.

Mine came with black straps and flat pad-eyes. I like Matt's solution better. Very clever!

Same here, came with straps. I agree, I like Matt's solution.

Don’t know what the USCG requirements are for fuel tanks, but when we were boarded a few years ago they were interested in the tanks in that they were secured, and that they could be removed. Would be good to know exactly what they were looking for.

Like the idea of the blocks, have just fitted straps fixed to the hull at both ends on mine but they can be a pain to remove sometimes when the clip seizes.
with the blocks and a latch on the lid they would be very secure and very easy to remove but not sure whether mine have room for the block.

This probably has something to do with determining if the tanks are "permanent" or "portable" with respect to regs. I believe anything over (including)12 gallons are considered permanent due to weight.

Did you buy yours in Australia? 12 gallons US is about 45 litres in Oz terms. Any pointers to what our equivalent is in terms of MACM fit?
